Job description:

We are looking for someone who can represent the interdisciplinary area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in biomedical engineering through their research, academic education, and innovation. Applicants should have a high reputation in one or several of the following fields:

  • Research and development of new AI-based health technologies.
  • Ubiquitous health technologies, e.g., smart body area networks, wearables, smart implants, and smart mobile devices.
  • Intelligent ambient systems for monitoring risk-relevant parameters in everyday life.
  • Machine learning methods for the evaluation of multimodal vital data.
  • Use of AI for prevention, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation.
  • AI for robotics in biomedical engineering.
  • New methodological, technical, and regulatory approaches to the use of AI in digital health technologies.

In teaching, the focus is on actively shaping and further developing both the Bachelor’s program in “ Medizintechnik und Informationstechnik ” and the Master's program in “Biomedical Engineering”. In addition, active participation in existing and new degree programs offered by the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology well as in related degree programs of other KIT Departments is expected.

The selected candidate will execute university tasks with a teaching obligation of 9 hours per week per semester.

The KIT Health Technologies Center ( KITHealthTech ), the HIDSS4Health Graduate School, and the collaboration with Karlsruhe Municipal Hospital offer an attractive environment for interdisciplinary research, as well as application- and practice-oriented innovations for future healthcare.

This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
