Key Accountabilities
FINANCIAL EXCELLENCE:
- New Group underwriting: determine appropriate benefits and rates for group’s
1-25 lives within the prescribed turn-around times
- Renewal Group Underwriting: provide statistical analysis of premiums, claims,
loss ratios and other financial and business analysis critical for proper assessment of past performance and assessment of renewal rate increases
- Complete calculation of reinsurance premiums and submit cheque requests to the accounts department for execution: Monthly - Medical reinsurance ceded. Quarterly - LTD and Life & AD&D reinsurance ceded
- Review and correspond on all applications for coverage.
- New Group Underwriting: collect and analyze data, financial condition, characteristics, medical condition and past claims experience to assess risk
- Review data entry for all products and associated rates directly in the system
- Complete detailed analysis of reserves and submit IBNR data to the Actuary
for timely assessment of the IBNR and at the end of each month - 3 day turn around
- Complete detailed analysis of reinsurance recoverable for claims in excess of retention level and submit to Claims Department, Accounts Department and Actuary monthly
- Provides statistical reports that highlight loss ratios and performance of groups
- Demonstrate professionalism, knowledge, initiative, innovation to increase level of customer satisfaction and profitability of the organization
Underwriting of Individual New Business Applications. Tele Underwriting where applicable for all New Groups, Late Enrollees or Applicants for coverage.
Operational Excllence
- Receive and input Individual New Business Applications.
- Receive and input Conversion Applications.
- Maintenance of Premium Tracking Report.
- Preparation of reports required for renewal underwriting.
- Preparation of Claims Experience and Membership Reports.
- Submit renewal data analysis to the Actuary/Senior Manager in accordance with established procedures for a timely communication and implementation of rate increases for groups renewing each month
- Provide new business activity report monthly
- Provide membership report for Group and Individual with details by product at the end of each month and distribute to relevant persons
- In conjunction with the Senior Manager assists with the maintenance of the current group underwriting manual
- Assist with any other functions as requested by management.

Job Requirements
- At least 2 years industry experience
- Technical knowledge and proficiency in industry underwriting and rating practices
- The understanding of stop-loss terminology, underwriting guidelines and the process and related calculations for rate adjustment factors
- Excellent math and analytical skills
- Skill in using a personal computer as well as Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Access
- BA or equivalent preferred
- ACS and UWD Designation or Equivalent
