Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business makes sure we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers get their items on time. As a Transportation Area Manager, you will be a responsible and accountable leader for a team of associates in a cluster within Germany.
You will own the operations and engagement of your shift with the aim to optimize associates' experience and performance alongside load planning and efficiency with a focus on safety.
This team is entrepreneurial, wears many hats, and works in a highly collaborative environment. If you have a safety-focused, customer-obsessed transportation and logistics industry background and experience working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and ambiguous environment, we would love to hear from you.
TAP scope is to execute Over the Road journeys (middle mile linehaul) and Shunting with Amazon Associates who are provided bar-raising training to become fully qualified TAP Drivers (TD). Our vision is to provide a world-class employment experience in a modern, technology-driven environment that places safety at the forefront of everything we do. TAP's mission is to provide a safe, sustainable, profitable, and best-in-class transport operation that supports Amazon's growth while offering people an opportunity to embark on a new career path. TAP is expanding rapidly in the German Network and the team will significantly grow over the coming years. As the program grows, the scope brings new and exciting opportunities within the management team and the transportation industry. The team is required to spend time between the office (in central Dortmund location 12 days of the week) and 4 sites within the DTM cluster (DTM1, DTM2, DTM9, PAD1 - 34 days of the week). For this, the team should expect to be fully reimbursed for their personal car mileage. Full onboarding and training will be provided. We promote personal career growth and development, and we also offer comprehensive shadowing of the experienced team in the UK, hence also traveling in the UK during the onboarding will be offered with all expenses covered.
Key job responsibilities
A day in the life
You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements within your area and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and widescale operational contingency tasks. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to new managers.
Working Schedules
Amazon facilities operate mostly 27/7, and therefore, as a Transport Area Manager, your working schedules may vary and span across day shifts, mid shifts, as well as night shifts. Also, due to business needs, you must be flexible to work weekends.
Location & Business travel
As a Transport Manager, you will be required to travel across 4 Amazon facilities in the Dortmund area (DTM cluster) and more specifically in (DTM1, DTM2, PAD1, DTM9). Depending on operational needs, you might need to visit multiple sites within the day; hence you must be flexible to start and finish your working day from different locations.
