Über uns Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business makes sure we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers get their items on time.

Role: Transportation Area Manager

As a Transportation Area Manager, you will be a responsible and accountable leader for a team of associates in a cluster within Germany. You will own the operations and engagement of your shift, aiming to optimize associates' experience and performance in conjunction with load planning and efficiency, with a focus on safety.

This team is entrepreneurial, wears many hats, and works in a highly collaborative environment. If you have a safety-focused, customer-obsessed background in transportation and logistics, and experience working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and ambiguous environment, we would love to hear from you.

Scope and Vision

The TAP scope involves executing Over the Road journeys (middle mile linehaul) and Shunting with Amazon Associates who are trained to become fully qualified TAP Drivers (TD). Our vision is to provide a world-class employment experience in a modern, technology-driven environment that prioritizes safety.

Our mission is to provide a safe, sustainable, profitable, and best-in-class transport operation that supports Amazon’s growth while offering career opportunities. The team is expanding rapidly within the German Network, with significant growth expected in the coming years.

Work Environment and Travel

The role requires working between the office in central Dortmund (1-2 days/week) and 4 sites within the DTM cluster (3-4 days/week). Mileage reimbursement is provided. Full onboarding and training will be offered, including shadowing in the UK with expenses covered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safeguard your team’s safety, promoting Amazon’s Health and Safety standards, and ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure team engagement and motivation, fostering a culture of ownership and high performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain high standards of process quality.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Develop practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Support system and process rollouts and gather feedback.
  • Monitor daily metrics and report exceptions.
  • Ensure fleet and driver compliance.
  • Travel within the cluster as required.
Typical Day

Your day will include team management, operational responsibilities, process improvements, and contingency tasks. You will act as a role model and mentor to new managers.

Working Schedule and Location

Shifts may include day, mid, and night shifts, with flexibility for weekends. Travel across the Dortmund facilities is required, with a typical pattern of 1-2 days in the office and remaining days at facilities, starting and ending days at different locations as needed.

About the Team

You will join the Amazon Transportation Service (ATS) team, which plays a central role in Amazon’s success by using data-driven decisions to optimize transport operations, prioritizing safety and efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Relevant experience leading large-scale transport operations.
  • People management experience.
  • Degree and valid Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Experience with performance metrics and process improvement.
  • Ability to develop scalable solutions independently.
  • Proficiency in English and German.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or similar in related fields.
  • Experience with contingent workforce during peak seasons.
  • Experience with a Commercial road haulage permit.
