DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH in Langen, Hessen is seeking aspiring air traffic controllers to guide flights safely. The training consists of theoretical studies and practical experience, lasting 2.5 to 3.5 years. Candidates must be fluent in English and German, with excellent hearing and eyesight.
The role offers a competitive remuneration package of €1,450 monthly during training and approximately €5,000 monthly during practical training.
Additional benefits include 32 days of holiday, a supportive training team, and recreational facilities at the campus.
As an air traffic controller, you guide thousands of passengers safely to their destinations every day, working hand in hand with pilots. Although pilots ultimately control aircraft, clear instructions as to heading and level determine when and where they fly. You are responsible for the safety of people in the skies on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany. You ensure that aircraft take off and land safely and have sufficient separation from each other in the air.
The air traffic controller training programme starts several times a year and lasts 2.5–3.5 years. It consists of a theoretical phase at the Air Navigation Services Academy in Langen and a practical phase at a control centre or tower in Germany.
Theoretical part:
€1,450 per month.
Practical part:
≈ €5,000 per month.
Two paths to acquiring the air traffic controller licence: a classic training programme or a dual air‑traffic controller degree programme that combines training with an English‑language bachelor’s degree in air traffic management. Both paths lead to a fully‑fledged air traffic controller status.
