A leading company in the field of electrical machines offers a master's thesis opportunity. The project focuses on evaluating a universal synchronous machine design, with responsibilities covering literature research, simulation, and trade-off investigation. Ideal candidates are master's students in engineering with prior knowledge of electrical machines and a passion for interdisciplinary challenges. A supportive team environment with flexible hours encourages personal development in a dynamic start-up setting.
Electrical machines are an intricate part of our modern society. With the decarbonization of all aspects of life, the already enormous demand for electrical machines is predicted to grow steadily. Hereby, the costs play an important role for the final customer. Often times electrical solutions are still more expensive than their alternatives. Especially for highly specialized machines produced at low volumes, one time investment costs contribute largely. The universal synchronous machine aims to reduce such costs by distributing them over a larger portfolio of products. A machine design suited for either PMSM or a SynRM should be investigated.
Primarily, this study aims at technical evaluation of the proposed concept. It should reveal the trade-offs between different designs and juxtapose the performance to conventional designs. Finally, an analysis of the potential cost savings completes this work.
