Jobbeschreibung

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1400 employees work towards a sustainable, economical, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research focus on energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global cooperation, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

For our department "Power Electronics and Grid Integration", we are looking for a student assistant with the opportunity to write a Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

The department "Power Electronics and Grid Integration" conducts research and development in the field of power converters for PV, battery and e-mobility applications as well as the integration of renewable energies. One focus of the research activities is on investigating the reliability of inverters and their components.

Building on previous research results, various tests to evaluate the quality and performance of PV-inverters shall be developed. For this purpose, a test plan needs to be created on the base of given quality and performance criteria. Afterwards a test bench will be set up to carry out the tests with various PV-inverters. The test results are to be evaluated and documented.

What you will do
  • You carry out literature research on accelerated inverter testing and existing test standards.
  • You create a test plan to evaluate PV-inverters according to predefined performance and quality criteria.
  • You set up a test bench to carry out the created tests.
  • You evaluate the test results and compare the inverters.
  • You document and present your work and results.
What you bring to the table
  • You study at a university of applied sciences/university in an electrical engineering program.
  • You have good knowledge of electronics and power electronics.
  • You are committed and have an independent way of working.
  • It is important to you to get involved in your team and achieve goals together.
  • Very good written and spoken German or English skills complete your profile.
What you can expect
  • Exclusive Insight: By working together with the scientists in our department, you will gain insight into the day-to-day research and development at a research institute.
  • Research mix: We offer you the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, thus applying and expanding the knowledge you gained during your studies.
  • Supervision: You will be supervised by scientists during your work and receive feedback on your progress.
  • Teamwork: You will gain experience of working in a team with our scientific and student employees and can contribute the experience you have already gained.
  • Working hours and location: We offer you the opportunity to flexibly adapt your working hours to your needs in consultation with your manager and to work from home from time to time.
  • Equal opportunities: We value equal opportunities and embrace diversity.
  • After work: Celebrate yourself and your colleagues at after-work events or our annual employee parties.

In addition to the thesis, a contract is agreed for work as a research assistant. The remuneration for this is based on the level of the university degree.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, belief, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons with the same qualifications will be given preference.

Interested? Apply online now with your detailed application documents (including cover letter, CV, reference/performance record). We look forward to getting to know you!
