Technical Project Manager, focused on Solar in Germany
AMPYR Distributed Energy (“ADE”) is an investor in onsite sustainable energy solutions. It develops, owns and operates onsite energy solutions that help businesses go green and reduce their energy costs. Job Overview
As the Technical Specialist for ADE, you will be working in the project development team but with exposure across the whole business. Opportunity to play a key role in the growth of ADE and the deployment of commercial and industrial systems across Germany, you will have a particular expertise in the delivery of PV. This includes roof solar, ground mount solar, AgriPV and potentially BESS. Our focus is on distributed energy, whereby we sell directly to the end client or via Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz (EEG)..
Primary Responsibilities
·Leading all analysis and modelling with our software providers and wider teams (technical, financial and sales), with the aim of creating highly efficient, accurate and timely proposals for i. Solar & BESS;
·Lead role on technical/development aspects of layout, designs, and implementation. Identifying risks and opportunities of converting modelling into the practical delivery of onsite generation systems for customers;
·Developing the business cases for projects in multiple markets and identifying ways to optimise returns above our base case;
·Keeping up to date with ongoing regulatory changes, new products/technology advancements, and cost changes in the industry.
Execution
Be involved in the whole lifecycle of the deal process. This will include:
·Interaction with our sales channel partners and external advisers on project solutions;
·Playing a lead role in the technical analysis during the due diligence process;
·Providing technical support during construction, inspection, and commissioning of and maintenance of projects;
·Risk assessments and market analyses (benchmarking)
·Support in warranty management and technical evaluation of insurance claims;
·Selection, commissioning, management, and evaluation of expert reports;
·Promote knowledge transfer between ongoing operations and investment projects;
·Standardise the content of technical O&M contracts;
·Develop and implement technical optimisation measures, considering cost and schedule constraints;
·Supporting the financial modelling workstream with accurate inputs on costs and revenue assumptions, in particular for solar projects;
·Supporting in the appointment of construction partners, utilising your knowledge of design of PV systems to ensure delivery of the business plan;
·Support in the preparation of investment papers.
Origination
·Opportunity to be involved with the origination of new deals supporting the sales & commercial teams;
·Attend meetings with our customers and channel partners as the Technical specialist.
Portfolio Management
·Assist Asset Management and Operations teams in measuring and monitor our investments;
·Analyse the performance and availability of existing parks – both remotely and via on-site inspections;
·Particular focus on managing solar optimisation, performance and reporting.
Skills required
·Engineering background, with strong foundation knowledge of a broad range of technologies, must have a strong level of solar PV experience.
·8+ years of relevant experience, within a RtM provider or optimiser, storage or renewable developer, IPP or technical consultancy with a focus on modelling and deploying solar PV systems;
·Development/technical experience in renewable energy, particularly solar. Onsite (C&I) solar experience advantageous but not essential;
·Ability to challenge the norm and think strategically to make informed recommendations;
·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
·Desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you can make an impact from Day 1;
·Ideally Munich-based, Hybrid working typically 3 x days in office / 2 x days from home.
What We’re Looking For
·Completed studies in electrical/environmental engineering or similar engineering disciplines
·Professional experience in technical management in the solar sector or in O&M
·Experience in contract negotiations is an advantage
·Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel
·Fluent German and English; additional languages are a plus
·Strong analytical skills and understanding of complex interrelationships
·High level of initiative, commitment, decisiveness, and team spirit
·Willingness to travel occasionally for inspections, commissioning, and acceptance processes
