HIGHCAT in Konstanz is seeking a hands-on prototype engineer to build, wire, and test electromechanical assemblies for drones and gimbals. You will work from drawings and parts lists, solder components, and help move prototypes toward production.

You should be comfortable reading technical docs in English, have CAD experience (Onshape preferred), and thrive in a structured, safety-conscious environment. Expect a practical, collaborative role with room to grow into leadership as our prototyping

Jobbeschreibung

You'll support our development team with the build, integration, and testing of prototypes for drones, controllers, ground stations, and gimbals. You'll work closely with the development team, implement technical specifications independently, and clearly report bugs, deviations, and areas for improvement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Build, wire, and test prototypes and electromechanical assemblies according to drawings, parts lists, and work instructions

Solder electronic components and reliably work with connectors, pinouts, and simple circuit diagrams

Systematically isolate electrical and mechanical faults, take measurements, and document results

Work with 3D-printed parts as well as carbon and aluminum components

Plan material requirements, procure components, and manage stock for ongoing prototypes

Independently prepare and carry out outdoor and flight tests; the development team supports and accompanies you whenever questions arise or support is needed

Document assembly processes, testing requirements, parts lists, and work instructions during the transition to production

Build and permanently establish reliable structures, organization, and traceable processes in prototyping; as needs grow, help build up a small team over time

ABOUT YOU

Hands-on experience in prototyping, mechatronics, or a comparable technical role, along with confident use of CAD (Onshape preferred) — practical skills count more than formal qualifications

Solid practical knowledge of electrics and electronics, and confident use of soldering irons, wiring, connectors, pinouts, simple circuit diagrams, and measuring equipment

Ability to confidently read and understand technical documentation, datasheets, and manuals in English

Basic understanding of how mechanics, electronics, power supply, and sensors interact

Careful, structured, and quality-conscious way of working, along with patience for repeated testing and adjustment steps

Independent prioritization, a strong sense of responsibility and safety awareness, and a tidy workspace

Clear communication, teamwork, willingness to learn, and a systematic, solution-oriented approach to troubleshooting

NICE TO HAVE

Experience in technical model making as well as with 3D printing and assembly work

Interest in drone technology and experience setting up technical processes or guiding a small team

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

30 vacation days, pay based on experience, and a three-to-six-month probationary period by agreement

Hands-on work environment, tools provided as needed, and openness to further training

Working hours Monday to Friday, generally 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; breaks flexible within the legal framework
