About

"Research for a life without cancer" is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors, and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods for tumor diagnosis and treatment. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration, or infrastructure. This makes our work meaningful and exciting.

The Division of Pediatric Glioma Research is seeking a Technical Assistant / Biology Laboratory Assistant (reference number: 2025-0197) to join us as soon as possible.

Our division characterizes and models rare pediatric brain tumor entities, primarily pediatric gliomas. We utilize techniques such as next-generation sequencing and other omics methods to study tumor biology. We also work on personalized medicine approaches, enabling precise diagnostics and targeted therapies. A key focus is bridging basic biology and clinical application, which we aim to strengthen.

We seek an enthusiastic, well-organized technical assistant interested in preclinical basic research, team-oriented, and responsible. The successful candidate will work with an international team of technical staff, postdocs, and doctoral students, establishing, planning, conducting, and evaluating experiments with mouse models and tumor cell lines. Responsibilities include:

  1. Working with in vivo tumor models, including gene transfer and treatment
  2. Handling histological methods: working with tissues, embedding, sectioning, immunostaining, and evaluation
  3. Cell culture work: culturing cell lines, producing lentiviruses, transfection, and cell assays
  4. Molecular techniques: DNA/RNA preparation, cloning, sequencing, mutagenesis, PCR
  5. Protein biochemistry: Western blotting, immunoprecipitation
  6. Laboratory organization: ordering supplies, managing inventory, ensuring safety compliance
  7. Laboratory maintenance: equipment upkeep, ensuring a clean and efficient environment
  8. Documentation: recording experiments, protocols, and results
  9. Supporting scientists administratively and organizationally

Requirements include:

  • Completed training as a technical assistant (MTA/BTA) or biology laboratory assistant
  • In vivo experience and willingness to work with the in vivo team
  • Experience with the methods listed is advantageous
  • Strong interest in childhood tumors, tumor and immune cell biology
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Motivation, flexibility, reliability, and personal responsibility

We offer:

  • State-of-the-art equipment and international networking opportunities
  • 30 days of vacation, flexible working hours
  • Remuneration according to TV-L, pension plan, capital-forming payments
  • Part-time options, family-friendly environment
  • Subsidized travel with Germany job ticket
  • Personal development opportunities
  • Holistic health management program
