At Lilly in Germany, we are currently planning and building a high-tech production facility in Alzey (Rhineland-Palatinate), which will expand our production of injectable drugs from 2027 and employ up to 1,000 specialists. To make the most of our innovative production site, we are looking for motivated reinforcements who, together with us, will ensure the supply of Lilly medicines in Germany, Europe, and worldwide, in line with the three Lilly values of "Excellence," "Integrity," and "Respect for People."

Responsibilities:

As the Tech@Lilly Associate Director – Alzey, you will be at the forefront of driving technological advancements and ensuring the smooth operation of critical IT systems. Leading a talented team, you will develop and implement strategic IT initiatives to support the production of life-saving medicines, ensuring the availability, reliability and performance of the Tech@Lilly systems are to their best.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Strategic Leadership:

·Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with business objectives, driving innovation and operational efficiency.

·Identify and prioritize technology initiatives that support the pharmaceutical manufacturing site's growth and compliance requirements.

·Collaborate with stakeholders to gain support and alignment on strategic IT initiatives.

·Member of cross-functional leadership team: Flow Teams.

·Benchmark on innovative solutions (external and internal to Lilly).

·Acts as the Senior Director backup, when needed.

Team Leadership and Development:

·Build and lead a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

·Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to team members, promoting their growth and retention. Mentor others in the organization.

·Foster effective communication and collaboration between IT and other departments to align IT solutions with business needs.

·Establish a strong site culture based in Lilly values, expectations, and operational excellence standards.

·Support diversity, equity and inclusion in recruiting and development of team members.

·Lead recognition, pay and promotion decisions for your group.

  • Lead talent assessment and succession planning activities for your group.
  • Support site recruiting building IT capabilities.
  • IT Operations Management:

·Ensure the reliable and secure operation of IT systems, including networks, servers, and storage, to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

·Implement robust cybersecurity measures, such as firewalls, encryption, and access controls, to protect sensitive data and intellectual property.

·Oversee the implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure uninterrupted operations.

·Encourages reduction of systems maintenance time consumption through improved documentation, clear requirements definitions, and increased end-user involvement in system design.

·Serves as the IT Alzey Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Leader.

·Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.

Project and Financial Management:

·Participates in the preparation of the whole departmental budget and capital planning. Leading the preparation of budget and/or capital projects and is responsible of managing it.

·Plans and coordinates with the Corporate IT, local IT and business groups the introduction of new technologies, methodologies, systems development and end-user productivity tools.

·Partner cross functionally locally and globally to establish and implement site IT roadmap.

·Dynamically adapt IT roadmap to site evolution/strategic directions, and new trends/issues.

·Lead and manage IT projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery within allocated budgets and resources.

·Define project requirements, develop project plans, and coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

·Monitor project progress, identify, and address risks, and adjust plans as needed to ensure project success.

·Keeps key stakeholders informed and engaged of your group accomplishments, goals, and progress.

Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:

·Ensure systems and equipment compliance with industry-specific regulations, such as FDA guidelines and GMP requirements, Lilly corporate policy and procedures, and local procedures to maintain product quality and safety.

·Ensures to be in compliance with Cybersecurity aspects, assure systems and equipment are well protected following planned or unplanned patching cycles. Maintain linkage with related Cybersecurity global efforts to assure systems are in compliance.

·Enforce security protocols to protect confidential information and ensure privacy compliance.

·Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate IT audits and inspections, addressing any findings promptly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of IT leadership experience working in GMP regulated industry.
  • Experience with IT audits, compliance assessments, and remediation activities, including addressing findings and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing IT teams.
  • Experience in facilitating cross-functional collaboration, aligning IT initiatives with business needs and fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing IT strategies aligned with business goals and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies like cloud computing, IoT, AI, and data analytics, and their potential applications in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with IT service management (ITSM) frameworks like ITIL, ensuring efficient incident management, problem resolution, and change management processes.
  • Proven track record in successfully leading and delivering complex IT projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall, and the ability to tailor approaches based on project requirements.
  • Proficiency in project management tools like Jira, Microsoft Project, or Trello to facilitate project planning, tracking, and collaboration.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry, such as FDA guidelines and GMP compliance.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining validated systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards (CSV).
  • Demonstrated creativity, analytical thinking, and the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Exposure to international operations, diverse teams, global IT projects, or working in a global organization.
  • Previous LEAN and Agile experience
  • Proficiency in German and strong English language skills
  • On-site presence required
