The Field Service Engineering Specialist (for Electric Actuation & Digital Products) is a customer-facing extension of the Flowserve digital products and automation engineering team. This engineer will support electric actuation activities for all digital products that interact with third-party host control systems. Responsibilities include servicing, troubleshooting, and commissioning customer network installations, with a strong understanding of network protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and others, as well as connectivity with systems from ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, and more.
This role can be located anywhere in the US or Europe, with travel up to 50%, including internationally. Living near a major airport is required.
The engineer plays a critical role in customer satisfaction, troubleshooting, and problem resolution, involving direct communication via face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and Webex.
Responsibilities Include:
- Combine technical knowledge with relationship skills to execute global strategies like Red Raven and VALVESIGHT, increasing profitability within FCD’s Service and Solutions Group. Support Product Management on technical aspects of Product Development and Technology Development.
- Utilize FLS diagnostics for troubleshooting, analysis, and inspection of digital products and control system compatibility issues, including protocols like HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Bitbus, and Modbus. Triaging involves electrical, mechanical, and connectivity aspects to identify and isolate problems.
- Train end users and FLS support personnel in network troubleshooting and commissioning, acting as a mentor to internal and external teams.
- Engage junior engineers in field support cases and provide training to build expertise in network protocols.
- Assist customers in designing new applications, migrating from older technology, and upgrading solutions across various industries.
- Provide technical assistance and recommendations on digital network interoperability with host control systems.
- Understand diagnostic systems for predictive and preventative maintenance, interpreting scripted diagnostics.
- Support sales and application engineering with pre-sales technical assistance, problem-solving, and product demonstrations.
- Support sales efforts through customer and channel training, technical presentations, and demonstrating product value.
- Interact with customers to communicate the Voice of the Customer, share field insights on competitors, and assist in benchmarking efforts.
- Promote a safety culture to reduce injuries and ensure a safe work environment.
Requirements:
- MS or BS in Engineering or 5+ years in Industrial Networks if without degree.
- 5-10 years of experience in troubleshooting systems and networks (DCS, SIS, AMS) with systems integration involving actuation, valves, and instruments.
- Proven experience with industrial digital communication and device commissioning.
- Fluent in English (verbal, reading, writing).
- Understanding of fluid flow in process control, including tuning flow loops.
- Ability to explain digital and mechanical concepts and articulate value propositions.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, process control, flow elements, sensors, transmitters, valves, and digital/analog communications.
- Expertise in protocols like HART, FF, Modbus, Profibus, and related FDT/DTM technology.
- Knowledge of main DCS and Asset Management Systems such as Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa Centum VP, Honeywell Experion.
- Familiarity with FDT frames, PACTware, FieldMate, and FieldCare.
- Experience with digital product installation, startup, and software setup.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
Preferred Skills / Experience:
- Experience with wireless communication in industrial environments.
- Knowledge of main competitors in electric actuation such as Rotork, Auma, EIM, Coester.
