Job summary

OHB System AG in Bremen seeks an experienced Systems Engineering Manager (m/f/d) to lead space system studies and coordinate a team across major space projects. You will shape requirements, architecture, and interface definitions for payloads, launchers, and ground segments.

The role demands strong leadership, complex trade-offs, and a deep understanding of system-of-systems concepts, with emphasis on DDV/AIV activities and risk management within ECSS standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Several years of professional experience across multiple space projects, covering key development and project lifecycle phases.
• Strong expertise in requirements engineering, mission analysis, system architecture, and end-to-end space system design.
• Proven ability to define specifications, system-of-systems concepts, interfaces, and operational concepts for payloads, launchers, and ground segments.
• Experience in system performance and budget analyses, quality assurance, development planning (DDV/AIV), qualification activities, and TRL assessment.
• Sound knowledge of risk management, stakeholder management, ECSS standards, and commercial aspects including customer and market requirements.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage conflicts, influence stakeholders, and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Entrepreneurial, solution-oriented, and results-driven mindset, combined with creativity, openness, and a confident, diplomatic professional presence.

Responsibilities

• Lead of technical projects team in a predevelopment phase for a space based early warning system
• Technical lead and co-ordination of project teams for the development of a space system, including consortium partners and internal departments
• Analysis of customer-, mission- and system requirements (specifications, SoW), including execution of a functional analysis, preparation of a requirements tree and identification of proposed adaptations
• Technical lead and execution of trade-offs, analysis and definition of mission and system architecture
• Definition and design and specification of space system including mission- and system design, analysis and design of entire system of systems and space system and their specifications
• Partial responsibility for project success, including performance (schedule, cost, quality) as part of the entire project success
• Definition and co-ordination of the technical interfaces between the space system elements and external systems
• Definition of a design, development and verification plan (DDV / AIV) for system of system in co-ordination with systems engineering and AIV / AIT
• Implementation of the technical aspects of the company strategy
• Possibly takeover of project management function
• Temporarily or permanently other reasonable and equivalent activities according to existing knowledge and skills

In the field of defence systems, OHB leads several large-scale projects for strategic and tactical reconnaissance and early warning missions.To strengenth the team of lead system engineers for these large-scale projects OHB is looking for an experienced System Engineering Manager for a high motivated team of engineers to define on space system level.
