Overview

AWS has launched the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a new initiative within AWS Utility Computing (UC). As a member of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will help build, operate, and evolve teams that deliver high‑availability AWS services—including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, and Bedrock—exclusively for EU customers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee ongoing operations and expansion of the ESC.
• Collaborate with global AWS teams to influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
• Enhance day‑to‑day operations to improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
• Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents.
• Root‑cause issues, maintain system resilience, and drive fault‑tolerance.
• Develop, test, and maintain scripts and automation to support operations.
• Educate service teams on the workings of the European Sovereign Cloud.

Day in the Life

You will spend a large portion of your time reviewing the operational health of services, identifying anomalies, and crafting actionable bug reports. You will provide feedback on change‑management documents, manage operational backlogs, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to maintain system functionality.

Eligibility

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and reside within the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with Linux OS and network troubleshooting, or networking administration.
• Proficiency in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
• Systems engineering or site reliability engineering experience building and operating large‑scale systems.
• Lead creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).
• Ability to drive operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
• Active mentorship of junior engineers and cross‑organizational collaboration.
• Operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and generative AI technologies, including automated deployment and AI‑powered automation tools.

Benefits and Compensation

Relocation support within the European Union. Participation in an on‑call rota. Salary range EUR 55 000 – 70 000 per year.
