Systems Engineer – Instrument Performance & Calibration (m/f/d)

In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced optical instruments for large space projects. After collaborating closely with experienced colleagues, you will be responsible for simulating instrument performance and datasets, deriving subsystem requirements, and maintaining technical budgets.

Your Tasks
  • Model and evaluate the performance of electro-optical instruments, considering factors like optical design, detector characteristics, and structural stability.
  • Ensure proper flow-down of customer requirements to technical and subsystem requirements, and allocate technical budgets accordingly.
  • Develop and analyze calibration concepts for on-ground and in-flight scenarios.
  • Regularly update the system’s technical budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform or support design trade-offs and identify mitigation options.
  • Define work packages with internal specialists and external subcontractors across disciplines (Optics, Mechanics, Thermal, Structure).
  • Align activities with the systems engineering work plan.
  • Review subcontractor analysis results and technical documents such as proposals and reports.
  • Monitor compliance with customer requirements.
  • Support technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
Your Qualifications
  • University or polytechnic degree or PhD in a scientific or engineering field (e.g., Physics, Aerospace Engineering).
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following areas:
    • Optics, spectrometry, and optical instruments
    • Control theory and control systems
    • Mathematical modelling and simulation
  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB and data processing.
  • Strong analytical skills, good communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Fluent in English (reading and writing).
  • NATO/EU citizenship.
