Overview

Systems Control/Tech Control Technicians operate, monitor, secure, and control the physical, data link, network, and transport layers of the network. They perform Circuit Restoration actions and apply Quality Control and Performance Standards.

They utilize subject matter knowledge for high-level analysis, collection, assessment, design, development, modeling, simulation, integration, installation, documentation, and implementation. They analyze network characteristics such as traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput, and recommend procurement, removals, and modifications to network components. They design and optimize network topologies and site configurations, plan installations, transitions, and cutovers of network components, and coordinate requirements with users and suppliers.

This position offers full logistical support for the employee and eligible dependents, including a relocation package under TESA (Technical Expert status with SOFA). The individual is NOT "ordinarily resident".

Responsibilities
  • Perform Circuit Management actions, report and monitor procedures, conduct trend analysis, request and schedule Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI), and maintain a Master Station Log.
  • Perform Node Site Coordinator duties to DISA and execute Circuit Actions as required.
  • Administer Facility Circuit Information Tracking (FACIT) Database and manage COMSEC devices.
  • Support Information Technology Services Management (ITSM), including Incident/Problem, Change, Service Request, and Knowledge Management.
  • Support Systems Notices, ASIs, and outage management.
Qualifications

Experience:

  • Specialized experience in communications software, hardware, or network specialties. General experience in all aspects of communication networks. Ability to work independently or under minimal supervision.
  • Hardware experience includes installing, testing, and operating network and computer communications equipment, and analyzing results.
  • Software experience includes developing, testing, installing, and operating network and computer software, and implementing standards.
  • Network experience involves designing, testing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networks, optimizing costs and performance, and managing accounting systems.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with three years of recent specialized experience, or
  • Associate’s Degree with seven years of recent specialized experience, or
  • No degree with 11 years of recent specialized experience.

Certification:

  • Possess and maintain DoDD 8570.01M/DoDD 8140 IAT II certification and relevant computing environment certifications.
