System Engineer Log Integration & Infrastructure Operations (P7)

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced System Engineer to manage and enhance logging tools and infrastructure within a secure, structured IT operations environment. The role focuses on supporting logging platforms such as QRadar, Syslog, and WEC, ensuring reliable data flow toward centralized log management systems compliant with BSI (Federal Office for Information Security) requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Log Management & Operations

• Perform release and version updates for QRadar.
• Integrate and maintain Syslog and WEC server connections.
• Modify and support existing log connections according to BSI standards.
• Maintain a Linux-based log relay (currently RHEL 8.9 with Syslog-ng) for forwarding logs.
• Provide daily manual monitoring of Syslog-ng due to lack of automated alerts.

️Troubleshooting & Maintenance

• Perform first-line and escalated support for:
• WEC functionality
• Syslog-ng performance
• Python-based components
• Filebeat agents
• Assist in network issue analysis, such as verifying log file health or testing source system connections.

Documentation & Change Management

• Contribute to system documentation, connection guides, and FAQs.
• Participate in planned maintenance windows, including connection checks and system validations.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Degree in IT or recognized technical vocational training in an IT field
  (alternatively, minimum 5 years of continuous experience in IT operations).
• ITIL Foundation certification (v3 or v4).
• LPIC-1 or equivalent Linux certification.
• Practical training or certification in Windows Server OS (2016 or newer).

Languages

• German C1 level (CEFR)
• English B1 level (CEFR)

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with:
• QRadar, Syslog-ng, WEC
• Linux server operation (RHEL 8/9, SLES 15)
• Windows Server (2016+)
• Command-line tools (Bash, CMD)
• Understanding of network function testing and log routing
• Familiarity with BSI-compliant environments is an advantage

Professional Experience

• At least 3 years of continuous hands-on experienceoperating:
• Logging software (QRadar, WEC, Syslog)
• Linux/Windows-based infrastructure
• Proven knowledge of network diagnostics using command-line tools

Soft Skills

• Strong teamwork and communication abilities
• High motivationand willingness to engage with new tools and environments

Additional Requirements

• Security Clearance (SÜ2) required or willingness to obtain
