We are looking for a senior sustainability engineering manager to join Mace’s growing responsible business team.
The successful candidate will provide sustainability guidance focused on engineering in design development for a prominent UK aviation client. Your role will involve developing and implementing sustainable engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and driving initiatives to reduce the client’s carbon footprint. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable solutions into all project phases. Ideal candidates will have experience in sustainable engineering and design, strong leadership skills, and a passion for driving positive environmental impact. You’ll be responsible for:
- Influencing the development of sustainable engineering practices, including agreeing project outcomes and ensuring their delivery by the project team.
- Managing a team of sustainability professionals to deliver technical work for our clients and support their development through guidance and personal development.
- Being a technical expert and promoting innovation areas of engineering in sustainability, such as responsible sourcing of materials, innovative design solutions, and sustainable buildings.
- Being a proactive generalist, able to cover all major issues of sustainability with relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, upskilling colleagues, and external profile-raising of Mace/Mace services.
- Supporting the drive for Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability.
You’ll need to have:
- An excellent knowledge of engineering and sustainable design principles, including design processes and embodied carbon.
- Experience and understanding of project delivery processes, including programme, cost, and operational impacts of NZC strategies and energy reduction initiatives.
- Management experience of a team of sustainability professionals.
- Proven track record of driving design teams to understand and respond to environmental constraints and opportunities to maximize positive environmental benefits.
- Expertise in one or more sustainability topics (waste, water, energy, carbon, responsible sourcing, building design, biodiversity, etc).
- The ability to translate technical topics into layperson’s language and articulate the value of sustainability.
- Ability to represent Mace at relevant forums and through presentations to clients and working groups.
- Leadership in sustainability, encouraging behavioral change throughout the business.
- Experience in developing innovation and best practices, including clear communication of these to the wider business and clients.
- Capability to translate best EMS practices across different areas, including analyzing reporting needs to simplify processes.
- Bid support experience – supporting work winning/bidding with strong business acumen.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders, including design teams, contractors, sub-contractors, and regulators.
You’ll also have:
- Practical experience in sectors such as infrastructure (rail, highways, aviation, defence, energy, utilities, nuclear).
- Experience in project, contractor, stakeholder engagement, or delivering employment & skills requirements.
- Experience in developing or implementing environmental management systems on projects.
