Position Summary

The Surgical Specialist, Gene Therapy Delivery (CNS), will support clinical neurosurgeons and their staff in the safe and effective delivery of AskBio gene therapies as part of clinical trials. The role involves working closely with senior leadership, establishing relationships with site investigators, and continually evaluating advances in CNS gene therapy.

This position is based in Edinburgh, UK, or Heidelberg, Germany, reporting to the Senior Director, CNS Gene Therapy Delivery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support surgical delivery of gene therapies at neurosurgical sites in Europe, collaborating with Site PIs to ensure safety and protocol adherence.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for surgeons and operating room staff regarding CNS gene therapy delivery methods and technologies.
  • Support development of surgical workflows and create educational materials.
  • Facilitate the use of novel medical devices, imaging protocols, and surgical techniques to enhance safety and efficacy.
  • Provide training to neurosurgical PIs and support site evaluations for new sites and investigators.
  • Build and maintain relationships with site PIs and neurosurgical KOLs.
  • Attend neurosurgical procedures to support and evaluate the delivery process.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new devices and technologies, sharing insights with the team.
  • Ensure compliance with internal SOPs, local laws, and regulations.
  • Maintain clinical and technical proficiency, staying updated on current practices and literature.
  • Support regulatory filings related to medical devices and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, nursing, or related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in preclinical and/or clinical research, particularly with neurosurgical devices.
  • Familiarity with brain imaging modalities, including MRI-guided brain delivery.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with neurosurgeons and operating room staff.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and instructional skills.
  • High integrity and knowledge of regulatory requirements for neurosurgical trials.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (50-70%).
