What to expect/ your tasks
The Department of Sustainability Technologies is investigating the impact of the recycling process on the flame retardants and matrix components of recyclable resins. This work is closely coordinated with the Department of Multifunctional Materials. We aim to understand how the recycling process affects the flame retardants: Does the addition of flame retardants influence the curing behavior of these resin systems? How does the recycling process impact the particles and matrix of the material?
Recyclable resin systems represent a new class of materials with the inherent ability to be broken down (recycled) using mild reagents into smaller components. However, their application in cabin structures or the tailoring of their flame retardancy properties is still under research, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in this exciting new area of study. Standard bulk resin processing equipment such as calendar rolls, mixers, and similar will be used to process these polymeric composites.
This research is part of a federally funded project focused on the development of sustainable cabin structures. As a result, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with research partners from other institutes and industry experts. Additionally, you will be able to present your results and share your experiences with them.

Your profile

  • Ongoing Master studies in materials science, mechanical engineering, process engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of polymer processing
  • Strong interest in experimental work
  • Enjoyment of hands-on tasks and laboratory work
  • Fluency in English
