Jobbeschreibung

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our around 1,400 employees work for a sustainable, economical, safe and socially fair energy supply system based on renewable energies.

We contribute to this with our research priorities of energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, spin-off companies and global cooperation, we shape the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

Would you like to actively help shape the energy transition and gain practical experience during your studies? The 'laser process technology' and 'laser system construction' groups deal with a large number of different applications from laser technology to the production of important components for the energy transition with a focus on solar cells and modules made of silicon and other semiconductors.

Job Description

We are permanently looking for scientific assistants for the process implementation, development and characterization. Your tasks will include:

  • Working on scientific projects.
  • Supporting us in carrying out standardized laser material processing for the production of solar cells.
  • Implementing characterization procedures for process control.
  • Programming of systems.
  • Relieving us in the construction of laboratory structures.
  • Working with us on sample preparation and data analysis.
Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

  • A high interest in laser technology in particular and/or optical technologies in general.
  • A scientific, engineering or comparable subject of study. You are preferably at the beginning of your studies and are based in Freiburg or the surrounding area.
  • Experience in careful, practical work in the laboratory is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of solar cells and semiconductor physics and familiarity with laser technologies.
  • Basic Python programming skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and achieve goals together.
  • Ability to listen attentively to others and work on tasks assigned to you independently.
  • Ability to present work that you have carried out independently.
  • Fluency in both German and English.
What We Offer

In return, we offer:

  • Exclusive insight into everyday research and development at a research institute.
  • Laboratory infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
  • A research mix of experimental work and theory.
  • Supervision by scientists and feedback on your progress.
  • Teamwork with academic and student staff.
  • Flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from home.
  • Equal opportunities and a diverse work environment.
  • After-work events and annual employee parties.

Remuneration is based on the level of your university degree. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled people will be given preference if equally qualified.
