European XFEL GmbH in Schenefeld, near Hamburg, seeks a Student Assistant (f/m/d) for the Detectors group for 20 hours per week. You will support engineers, technicians and scientists in daily tasks and help organize stores, spare parts and data handling in a multinational environment.

The role offers exposure to detector systems, electronics and vacuum tech, with flexibility for project-related tasks and potential involvement in design and testing activities.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s program in Physics or Engineering.
• Good English proficiency.
• Interest in detectors, electronics and vacuum systems.
• Experience with MS Word and Excel is beneficial.
• CAD experience, vacuum systems or clean rooms is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist Detector Group Engineers, Technicians and Scientists with daily tasks.
• Organize storage in the clean room and manage spare parts inventory.
• Support administrative tasks and project-related activities as needed.
• Contribute to data handling, data taking and basic analysis of detector data.

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. For our Detectors Mechanics Engineering and Technical Team, we are looking for a

Student Assistant (f/m/d) Detectors – 20h/week

The Position

Support the Detector Group Engineers, Technicians and Scientists in everday tasks and activities, such as:

• Organizing storage in the clean room, including cleaning of components for clean room compatibility,
• Organizing storage space for existing detector components and test stand pieces, as well as spare parts,
• Helping to organize the inventory of detector parts and spare parts,
• Supporting the group in administrative issues.

Depending on the individual background, you may also help with project-related tasks, such as:

• Mechanics and component design,
• Small mechanics/electronics assemblies and tests,
• Activities with regard to component qualification and quality control,
• Data handling, data taking and basic analysis of detector data.

Requirements

• Enrolled Bachelor or Master student in Physics or Engineering
• Good English knowledge
• Interest in working with detectors, electronics and vacuum systems
• Experience with MS Word and Excel
• Well-organized and motivated to join an international team
• Experience with CAD software, vacuum systems or clean rooms would be an asset

• Salary range for Student Assistants: min. 2/2 with 2,975.32€ – max. 3/2 with 3,164.20€ (these values refer to a working time of 39 hours a week in full time and will be adjusted according to the part-time model), the actual level is defined by the individual university enrollment (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree), here is the link to the current validtariff table
