Descrizione del lavoro

European XFEL GmbH seeks a postdoctoral scientist to join the EXPLODE research group, developing resonant X-ray spectroscopy diagnostics for fusion science on XFEL facilities. The project code 13F1044 supports experimental X-ray platforms to optimise and diagnose inertial fusion energy.

You will plan and conduct experiments, analyze resonant inelastic X-ray scattering data, and contribute to publications while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in an international environment.

Competenze

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Experience in X-Ray spectroscopy, scattering, atomic or plasma Physics.
  • Experience conducting experimental research at large-scale facilities preferred.
  • Strong computing skills; Python or comparable tools.

Mansioni

  • Develop resonant X-Ray spectroscopy methods for high-temperature, high-density and fusion-relevant platforms on XFEL experiments.
  • Develop and apply analysis and modelling for resonant inelastic X-ray scattering.
  • Define experimental requirements, targetry, and spectroscopic diagnostics for transient plasma states.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in experiments at European XFEL and international facilities.

The BMFTR Project code is13F1044 for the project "Experimentelle Röntgenplattformen zur Optimierung und Diagnose der Trägheitsfusion" (EXPLODE).

  • Develop resonant X-Ray spectroscopy methods for high-temperature, high-density and fusion-relevant experimental platforms on XFEL experiments
  • Develop and apply analysis and modelling approaches for resonant inelastic x-ray scattering
  • Work to define experimental requirements, targetry, and spectroscopic diagnostics to measure the properties of transient plasma states
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in experiments at European XFEL and international facilities
  • Disseminate results through publications, conferences and collaborations
  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Research experience in X-Ray spectroscopy, scattering, atomic or plasma Physics
Specific Requirements
  • Ability to develop and apply quantitative methods for the analysis of experimental data
  • Experience in conducting experimental research, preferably at a large-scale research facility
  • Ability to do independent research while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with scientific computing, preferably in python or comparable tools

The following qualifications would be beneficial:

  • Experience with resonant spectroscopic techniques, such as resonant inelastic X-Ray scattering, resonant X-Ray emission spectroscopy, X-Ray absorption spectroscopy
  • Knowledge of atomic or electronic structure modelling, including density functional theory or collisional-radiative approaches
  • Familiarity with XFEL or synchrotron experiments
  • Background in warm dense matter, high energy density physics, laser driven plasmas or inertial fusion research
