Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Field Engineering based in Germany.

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Staff Software Engineer to help build and shape a new Field Engineering function within a fast-growing global technology environment. In this role, you will work across complex backend systems, APIs, data flows, and external integrations to solve critical technical challenges for strategic enterprise customers. You will collaborate closely with Account Management and Product teams to identify performance bottlenecks and deliver solutions that directly improve customer outcomes and business results. From optimizing pricing and inventory availability to strengthening booking reliability, your work will have a measurable impact on revenue, market share, and profitability. As an early member of the team, you will also help establish engineering practices and transform successful customer-specific solutions into scalable platform capabilities. This is an opportunity to combine technical leadership, autonomous execution, and commercial impact while contributing to the evolution of global travel technology infrastructure.

Accountabilities:
  • Build, develop, and implement technical solutions that address complex challenges across a global travel technology platform.
  • Work closely with Account Management teams to identify technical opportunities and resolve issues affecting the performance and growth of strategic enterprise accounts.
  • Investigate performance bottlenecks across backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party dependencies, taking ownership from initial diagnosis through production deployment.
  • Optimize pricing mechanisms to improve booking competitiveness while protecting margins and overall profitability.
  • Improve hotel inventory availability, mapping accuracy, and supplier connectivity to increase successful bookings and market share.
  • Develop and enhance pre-booking validation and booking recovery mechanisms to reduce transaction failures and improve booking conversion rates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, reliability, and customer experience through targeted engineering initiatives.
  • Translate commercial and customer insights into actionable technical improvements, prioritizing initiatives based on their potential business impact.
  • Work across multiple services and platform components rather than focusing exclusively on a single engineering domain.
  • Measure the impact of implemented solutions using relevant business and technical performance indicators.
  • Identify successful account-specific solutions and transform them into reusable capabilities that can be adopted across the wider platform.
  • Collaborate with Product, Account Management, and other engineering teams to ensure technical improvements align with customer needs and business priorities.
  • Help establish the Field Engineering function by developing repeatable approaches, sharing technical knowledge, and shaping processes that support future scalability.
  • Operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment, making technical decisions and delivering improvements with minimal bureaucracy.
Requirements:
  • Extensive experience as a hands-on Staff Software Engineer or in a similarly senior software engineering position, with a proven track record of building and maintaining complex production systems.
  • Strong backend engineering expertise and the ability to navigate distributed systems, APIs, data flows, and external integrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex technical problems, identify root causes, and independently implement reliable production-ready solutions.
  • Experience taking ambiguous engineering challenges from initial investigation through implementation, deployment, and measurable performance evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of how engineering decisions influence customer experience, product performance, revenue, and broader commercial outcomes.
  • Ability to work across multiple services and technical domains, identifying dependencies and opportunities for system-wide improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a practical approach to prioritization and delivering measurable results.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with Product, Account Management, and commercial teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Comfortable working independently, taking ownership of decisions, and delivering results in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to thrive in ambiguous situations where initiative, adaptability, and accountability are essential.
Nice to have:
  • Experience working with marketplaces, pricing systems, transactional platforms, or complex API-driven products.
  • Professional experience developing and deploying applications using Go (Golang) in production environments. However, experienced engineers with other technology backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience in the travel technology industry, particularly with hotel inventory, booking systems, or supplier integrations.
  • Experience building scalable solutions for enterprise customers and transforming customer-specific improvements into reusable platform capabilities.
Benefits:
  • Meaningful Equity: Access to an equity package that allows you to participate in the company's long-term growth and success.
  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive compensation aligned with your experience, technical expertise, and the scope of the role.
  • Fully Remote Flexibility: Work remotely from anywhere in Europe.
  • High Ownership and Autonomy: Take responsibility for meaningful engineering challenges, make important technical decisions, and see the direct impact of your work.
  • Career Development: Help build a new engineering function from its early stages while expanding your technical leadership and strategic influence.
  • Fast-Paced Environment: Work in a dynamic technology environment with minimal bureaucracy, short decision-making cycles, and opportunities to deliver solutions quickly.
  • Global Collaboration: Work alongside international teams and contribute to technology used by major global businesses.
  • Large-Scale Technical Challenges: Solve complex engineering problems involving APIs, distributed systems, pricing, inventory, and transactional infrastructure.
  • Innovation and AI: Contribute to the evolution of AI-enabled travel technology and next-generation digital experiences.
  • Business Impact: See a direct connection between your engineering contributions and measurable improvements in bookings, customer performance, revenue, and profitability.
