STAFF DATA SCIENTIST

The Data Science department uses statistical modeling, machine learning, and optimization techniques to continuously improve business processes at NEW YORKER. We work in agile project teams on various use cases, including order optimization, pricing, distribution, and logistics. We are a highly ambitious and international team, proud of our high standards.
THAT'S THE JOB
- Actively grow and manage a network of business contacts to understand business processes, their data representations, and main challenges.
- Partner with leadership to develop advanced machine learning models that automate processes and improve forecasting, ensuring high-quality results.
- Deliver complex, mission-critical projects from start to finish in areas such as assortment planning, pricing, and distribution, covering business understanding, data analysis, modeling, programming, project leadership, and rollout.
- Collaborate with data engineering and software engineering teams to deploy and maintain data products.
- Design and implement advanced machine learning models, contribute directly to projects, and serve as a role model for other data scientists.
- Contribute to decision-making that impacts other teams or the company, and support project planning and long-term strategy.
- Provide guidance and recommend solutions that meet business needs with optimal value.
- Mentor and review team members' work, fostering a knowledge-sharing culture.
- Drive data science initiatives and shape the company's long-term machine learning and AI strategy.
That's What We Need
- University degree in STEM disciplines with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the fashion, retail, or e-commerce industry.
- Background as a Data Scientist interested in software engineering or former software engineers with proven Data Science project experience.
- Ability to work with uncertainty and ambiguity.
- Excellent Python skills and familiarity with data science frameworks (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Good knowledge of SQL and data engineering tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
- Strong team and communication skills, with a hands-on approach.
- Well-organized, proactive, and self-driven, with good team alignment.
- Fluent in German and English.
