We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role comes with the responsibility to design innovative, state-of-the-art, cost and energy-efficient design solutions for the different systems mentioned in the responsibilities below.

You will be working in our state-of-the-art Gigafactory where you’ll solve the world's most interesting problems with the best and brightest people who share a passion to change the world.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work alongside the mechanical design team, based on site in Grünheide (Mark).
  • Deliver LPH2 to LPH5 designs and coordinate with all other disciplines while keeping up with the local norms and Tesla standards.
  • Provide recommendations and technical guidance for junior engineers on topics you are expert in.
  • Review the design of external design consultants and modelers.
  • Engage in technical discussions with suppliers and negotiate alongside procurement for the best prices and lead times.
  • Schedule deliverables to meet start of production on new projects.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals from contractors.
  • Create construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD according to VDI 6026 LPH 5 standard, as well as creating basis of designs, hydraulic calculation reports, static load calculations, thermal load calculations, schematics, BOQs, Schedule of equipment, and Sequence of operations.
  • Coordinate with design management, other design disciplines, procurement, construction, quality control, commissioning, facility management, EHS, permitting, project controls, and all interdisciplinary functions.
  • Understand manufacturing requirements and provide recommendations for proper operation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, operational optimization, and OPEX reduction, creating the business case for it with their ROIs supported by data analysis cost estimates and consistent with local codes and international standards.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Master's degree in engineering or German Diplom Ingenieur.
  • Experience in general ventilation, lab ventilation, dust collecting systems, VOC abatement systems, smoke exhaust systems, dry air, clean rooms, and pressurization, etc.
  • 7+ years of experience in designing the above-mentioned trades.
  • Fluent in English; German fluency is an advantage.
  • High communication skills and ability to work in teams on flexible and agile projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline (e.g., German regulations such as DIN/VDI/AWSV).
  • Knowledge in thermal calculation software like HAP or equivalent, hydraulic calculations on Pipeflo or similar software.
  • Advanced user of Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and project management tools like Azure, Aconex, etc.
