Job summary

SYNLAB Group seeks a Special Chemistry & Toxicology Lab Footprint and Lab Engineering Lead to shape and execute a global lab footprint strategy across regions. You will drive consolidation, expansion, relocation, and CAPEX alignment with regulatory requirements, while standardizing processes and advancing automation.

You will lead cross-functional teams in international settings, ensuring ISO/CE compliance and implementing LIMS integrations to boost efficiency and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Clinical chemistry, Supply Chain, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
• Master's degree in clinical chemistry is desirable.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in special chemistry lab operations or engineering within diagnostics/healthcare/life sciences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a global lab footprint strategy to optimize distribution of labs and testing sites.
• Identify consolidation, expansion, and relocation opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.
• Support CAPEX related to laboratory projects infrastructure and regulatory alignment.
• Standardize lab processes across regions to enhance performance and cost efficiency.
• Design, construct, and maintain state-of-the-art laboratories to support evolving capabilities.
• Ensure compliance with ISO standards, GMP, and CE-IVDR for lab design and operations.
• Lead automation and digitalization initiatives with IT and Digital teams (LIMS integration).
• Drive lean operations with Lean Six Sigma to improve productivity and reduce turnaround times.
• Benchmark KPIs across labs and optimize resource utilization to reduce costs while ensuring quality.

To support the development and implementation of a global lab footprint strategy to optimize the distribution of special chemistry, toxicology and drugs of abuse laboratories and testing sites across regions.

Identify and support the consolidation, expansion, and relocation opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.

To support CAPEX related to laboratory projects infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business growth and regulatory requirements.

To support the standardization of lab processes across all regions to enhance operational performance and cost efficiency.

To support the design, construction, and maintenance of state-of-the-art laboratories to support evolving diagnostic capabilities).

Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 15189, ISO 17025, GMP, etc.) for laboratory design and operations.

Ensure compliance with CE-IVDR regulation

Implement automation & digitalization in lab processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Collaborate with IT & Digital teams to integrate Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other smart lab technologies.

Operational Excellence & Cost Optimization

Implement Lean Six Sigma principles to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance turnaround times.

Benchmark and development of operational KPIs across labs to identify areas for continuous improvement and standardizations across labs.

To advise the optimization of resource utilization to reduce operational costs without compromising quality and compliance.

To be the projects liaison between 3L team and the medical, Group and country, communities.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Clinical chemistry, Supply Chain, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.

Minimum 10+ years of experience in special chemistry lab operations, engineering within diagnostics, healthcare, or life sciences.

Deep knowledge of lab workflows, regulatory requirements, and automation technologies.

Experience in facility planning, CAPEX investments, and lab engineering projects.

Proven ability to work under cross-functional environment & international teams.

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies.

Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and automation trends in lab operations.

Master in clinical chemistry: desirable

Location: Germany or Italy

Languages: Fluent in English. Desirable: German or Italian.
