SSC Space in Darmstadt, Germany invites applications for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer (f/m/d) to support Sentinel Expansions at ESOC. The role covers operations preparation, early flight support, and system validation tests across MCS, simulators and ground segments.

Qualifikationen

  • Degree in aerospace engineering, space systems engineering, electrical engineering, physics, computer science or a related field.
  • Experience in spacecraft operations, operations preparation or ground segment validation.
  • FOS validation and SVT/FOP test experience.
  • Knowledge of mission planning tools and operational interfaces.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Aufgaben

  • Provide operations preparation and early flight support for Sentinel Expansion missions (CO2M, CRISTAL, ROSE-L, CIMR, CHIME, LSTM).
  • Perform EGOS-CC MCS validation, verification, testing, and issue investigations.
  • Support FOS validation across MCS, simulator, ODB, mission planning and ground segment interfaces.
  • Prepare and execute System Validation Tests, including dry runs and formal test execution.
  • Contribute to spacecraft monitoring and commanding during test campaigns and early operations.

Requirements
  • Degree in aerospace engineering, space systems engineering, electrical engineering, physics, computer science or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in spacecraft operations, operations preparation or ground segment validation.
  • Experience in spacecraft operations engineering or FOS validation.
  • Practical experience with EGOS-CC MCS validation, verification and testing.
  • Good knowledge of MCS functions, telemetry and telecommand processing.
  • Experience with Operational Databases and related engineering processes.
  • Experience with Operational Simulators and Simulator-based test campaigns.
  • Experience preparing or executing SVTs, FOP validation or system-level tests.
  • Knowledge of mission planning tools, products and operational interfaces.
  • Understanding of spacecraft subsystem operations, like data handling, AOCS, payload, power, thermal or TT&C.
  • Ability to work in a structured operational environment with formal documentation, configuration control and issue tracking.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Sentinel, Copernicus or Earth observation mission experience.
  • Experience with S2K-based MCS.
  • Experience with Airbus or TAS spacecraft platforms.
  • Knowledge of GSTVi, NDIU or comparable ground segment validation infrastructure.
  • Scripting or software skills for test automation, data analysis or engineering tool support.
  • Experience with LEOP, commissioning or critical operations support.
Responsibilities

The role covers operations preparation and early flight support for Sentinel Expansion missions such as CO2M, CRISTAL, ROSE-L, CIMR, CHIME and LSTM. The work spans Flight Operations Segment validation, EGOS-CC Mission Control System testing, Operational Database activities, simulator-based validation, mission planning support and System Validation Test campaigns.

  • Support spacecraft operations preparation from early mission phases through SVTs, launch readiness, LEOP, commissioning and handover to routine operations.
  • Prepare, validate and maintain operational products, including procedures, displays, command sequences, databases and test material.
  • Perform EGOS-CC MCS validation, verification, test execution, regression testing and issue investigation.
  • Support FOS validation across MCS, simulator, ODB, mission planning and related ground segment interfaces.
  • Prepare and execute System Validation Tests, including dry-runs, formal test execution, anomaly reporting and close-out.
  • Support simulator-based validation, including scenario preparation, spacecraft behaviour checks and test result analysis.
  • Support ODB preparation, consistency checks, delivery validation and anomaly investigation.
  • Support mission planning validation, operational constraints, planning products and interface tests.
  • Contribute to spacecraft monitoring and commanding during test campaigns, simulations and early operations.
  • Work with ESA, industry and ground segment teams to resolve technical issues and prepare for operational readiness.
