Job summary

Avilus in Germany is seeking a Software Test and Verification Engineer to develop Model- and Software-in-the-Loop test cases using MATLAB/Simulink. You will verify that the function design reflects system requirements and help advance our toolchains for automated testing.

You will work with test, flight controls, and systems engineers to ensure safe operation of our products, contributing to DO-178C–aligned verification and rigorous traceability across requirements, functions, and tests.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Experience designing or testing control software for safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of DO-178C/DO-278A and model-based design DO-331.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement MiL/SiL test cases using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Improve MiL/SiL development strategies and test setups.
• Define test plans for flight control software clearance.
• Analyze stability properties and control performance.
• Assess effects of faults and atmospheric conditions on control.
• Evaluate linear and nonlinear system responses.
• Track automated test runs and report bugs.
• Provide DO-178C–compliant verification of designs.
• Ensure traceability between requirements, functions and tests.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers and external partners.

Have you ever wondered how our products achieve their mission and maybe more importantly under which conditions? The dynamic behavior of an aircraft can depend heavily on external influences. How can the system be safe even though failures occur and which scenarios can lead to catastrophic events?

As a Software Test and Verification Engineer, you are dedicated to identifying these failures by developing Model- and Software-in-the-Loop test cases using MATLAB/Simulink and in-house toolchains. This means you will verify that the function's design reflects the system requirements and help enhance our toolchains to further automate our processes. Therefore, you will work closely with test, flight controls, and systems engineers to ensure the safe operation of our products.

Tasks

• Definition and Implementation of model-in-the-loop test cases based on MATLAB/Simulink
• Improvement and automation of our MiL and SiLdevelopment strategies and test setups
• Definition of test plans and test scenarios for the clearance process of flight control software
• Analysis of stability properties and control law performance metrics
• Analysis of failure effects and atmospheric conditions on the control law performance
• Assessment of linear and nonlinear control response of dynamic systems
• Tracking of automated test runs and bug reporting
• Simulative verification of the function design as per DO-178C
• Establishing traceability between requirements, functions and tests
• Close collaboration with functions and systems engineers as well as external partners

Qualifications

• Degree: Completed studies (Master) in the domain of aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or comparable programs
• Experience: Experience in the design or testing of control software for safety-critical systems
• Method-Knowledge: Control theory, flight control, flight dynamics,model-in-the-loop, V-model, validation and verification process (DO-178C and DO-278A), model-based design (DO-331)
• Tool-Knowledge (mandatory): MATLAB/Simulink, GIT
• Tool-Knowledge (optional):GitLab, Python, Polarion, C
• Required for employment: Security clearance (Ü2-Sabotageschutz) approval (note: relationships in countries according to § 13 para. 1 no. 17 SÜG may result in a negative assessment)
