eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. We are looking for a Software Engineer (m/f/d)- Backend.

Responsibilities:

As a Software Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the backend software components that power our quantum computing systems. In this position, you will work closely with our international team of physicists and engineers to build robust, scalable, and maintainable backend services and APIs.
Depending on your level of experience, you will take on one or more of the following tasks:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy backend services that support quantum control and experiment orchestration

  • Build APIs and data interfaces to integrate various components of our quantum computing stack

  • Ensure scalability and maintainability of backend systems, adhering to high software engineering standards

  • Optimise data processing pipelines for performance and reliability.

  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure system robustness

  • Identify and mitigate potential security vulnerabilities in backend systems

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software architecture with hardware requirements

  • Document software designs and maintain high code quality through code reviews and best practices

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 3+ years of professional experience in backend development

  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with frameworks like FastAPI or Flask is a plus

  • Solid understanding of building and consuming REST APIs

  • Experience with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data modeling

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins)

  • Good grasp of software architecture and design patterns for scalable systems

  • Proficiency in version control (Git)

  • Fluent communication and writing skills in English

  • Creative mindset and enjoyment working in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team

We value:

  • Background in robotics/aviation/automotive

  • Exposure to high-performance computing, quantum systems, or other advanced hardware technologies

  • Experience in programmatic device control (SCPI, MODBUS, etc. over serial, USB, TCP)

  • Experience with oscilloscopes or emulators for software debugging
