The Amazon Gifting teams build experiences to connect gift givers and recipients. We provide services to help shoppers find the perfect gift, and enrich the gifting experience through features like gift messages, gift wrap, gift receipts, and recipient shipping options. The services you build will support hundreds of millions of customers shopping for gifts, combining technology, science, innovation, and creativity to create new customer-facing features and tools for marketers.

To succeed in this role, you should be a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and has a track record of building strong teams that deliver results. You should have a strong sense of ownership, passion for providing great customer experiences, and excellent troubleshooting skills, even under high pressure. Experience with distributed systems and high-availability eCommerce services will be highly beneficial.

This role is based in our Development Center in Berlin, Germany.

A day in the life

1. Hiring and developing an engineering team responsible for design, development, and operations
2. Managing and mentoring engineers, ensuring organizational health and career development
3. Participating in strategic planning to meet technical and business goals, and managing resource allocation
4. Leading design reviews and providing feedback on architecture, design, and operational issues
5. Collaborating with Applied Scientists to deliver machine learning solutions

You will explore various channels Amazon offers for customer outreach and engagement, both onsite and offsite. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers
• Experience designing or architecting systems for reliability and scalability
• Experience partnering with product and program management teams
• Experience leading the development of multi-tier web services

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of engineering practices across the full software/hardware/network development lifecycle
• Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent
