About the Role
As an Automation Engineer you will join our design team in Mannheim, contributing to the development of specialized, often remotely operated, equipment used for repair processes on nuclear power plant components. You will participate in the full lifecycle of innovative tools and systems—from concept design through testing, qualification, and field deployment. You will report to the Manager NDE & Special Products and be located at Mannheim.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop control software, graphic user interfaces and control systems for equipment used in the repair of critical nuclear power plant components.
- Integrate electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical components into fully functional systems.
- Support the development, testing, and qualification of new equipment, including participation in customer reviews and on‑site activities.
- Perform commissioning of new equipment at internal or supplier facilities.
- Contribute to FOAK (First‑Of‑A‑Kind) projects and drive products from prototype to maturity.
- Prepare comprehensive project documentation such as Work Instructions, Development Programs, Test Reports, and Bills of Materials, etc.
- Provide ongoing support for existing products, including troubleshooting, technician training, etc.
- Contribute to active projects and work closely across departments, sites, and international teams.
- Foster collaboration across countries within the organization.
Qualifications
- Min. 3 years of experience in development, design and testing of specialized electromechanical equipment.
- German in speaking and writing (mother tongue or C2‑Level) – required.
- English in speaking and writing (min. B1, B2 preferred) – required.
- French in speaking and writing (optional).
- At least one high‑level programming language. Experience with languages we use is an asset: Step7‑SCL (PLC), Object Pascal (GUI), C++ (Microcontroller).
- Electrical components – required.
