Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Social Scientist with experience working with diverse teams of linguists, analysts, and information operations (IO) planners to translate empirical research findings into operational assessments. Collaboration in a team environment is essential.

This is an on-site position in Stuttgart, Germany.

Position Summary:

The Social Scientist will oversee analytic and assessment projects evaluating the information environment (IE) in the USAFRICOM area of responsibility (AOR), and will prepare assessment reports such as briefs, PowerPoint presentations, and inputs into C2IE (Command and Control in the Information Environment). Familiarity with data analytic tools and AI-enabled research methods (e.g., large language models, machine learning, natural language processing) is preferred. Experience with opinion research vendors is also desirable.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Conduct assessments of the information environment using opinion research data, intelligence, operational reports, and social media insights, leveraging AI tools.
  2. Provide data visualization and explain quantitative and qualitative analyses from research teams and vendors.
  3. Design opinion research and interpret findings, including surveys, flash polls, focus groups, and interviews.
  4. Prepare reports, assess project issues and risks, and develop solutions to meet goals.
  5. Develop and coordinate assessment and collection plans for theater-specific series in the C2IE system.
  6. Coordinate the collection of indicators across social, cultural, economic, political, religious, and regional sources.
  7. Review similar studies for reliability and validity.
  8. Support innovative social science research initiatives and report findings to senior decision-makers.
  9. Work independently or collaboratively with social scientists inside and outside the theater.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 8 years relevant experience with a BA, 6 years with a Master’s, or 3 years with a PhD
  • Ability to brief senior leaders and conduct operational and informational presentations
  • Knowledge of Army/Joint Targeting, IPB, Intelligence cycle, and COG analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Willingness and ability to travel within USAFRICOM AOR
  • Current U.S. Passport
  • Active DoD TS security clearance with SCI eligibility

Desired:

  • PhD in social sciences with over 9 years of experience, or Master’s in related fields
  • Understanding of AI analytics and cloud computing
  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience with data analytic tools (e.g., Babel X, Predata, Zignal)
  • Operational experience in Military Information Support Operations or Psychological Operations
  • Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands
  • Focus on USAFRICOM AOR and related issues
  • Knowledge of JOPP, MDMP, or MCPP planning and targeting
  • Experience with USINDOPACOM, USSOCPAC, or similar environments
  • Statistical analysis skills (SPSS, R, STATA, Excel)
  • Experience with campaign or operational assessments

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000, depending on experience and other factors.
