Job summary

Tipico, Germany's leading sports betting provider, is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/x) to secure, scale, and automate our critical platforms in Karlsruhe. You’ll combine software engineering with an operational mindset to automate processes, enhance resilience, and reduce incidents, working across engineering, product and platform teams to enable fast, safe delivery.

You will own monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning for distributed systems, partnering with dev teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor/master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent degree.
• 2+ years of experience in similar positions like Senior Software Developer or Performance Lab Engineer.
• Programming in one or more high-level languages such as Java, JavaScript and Python.
• Expert in cloud computing technologies (AWS).
• Solid knowledge and experience with Kubernetes (administration, optimisation, CRDs).
• Proficiency in CI/CD and provisioning tools (GitHub Actions, Terraform).
• Vendor certifications (AWS) or equivalent; Java development background is a plus.
• Fluent in English; German knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Run production environment with a holistic view of system health.
• Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications.
• Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of software solutions.
• Measure and optimise system performance; push capabilities forward and innovate for improvement.
• Provide operational support and engineering for large-scale distributed applications.
• Gather and analyse metrics from OS and applications for performance tuning and fault-finding.
• Partner with development teams to improve services.
• Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
• Create sustainable systems through automation and uplift.
• Balance feature speed and reliability with well-defined SLAs.

Your daily pitch:

As our Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/x), you will help keep our business-critical platforms reliable, scalable and ready for every challenge. You will combine software engineering expertise with a strong operational mindset to automate processes, strengthen resilience and reduce service disruptions. Working alongside engineering, product and platform teams, you will enable the fast and safe delivery of solutions without compromising system stability. Your insights will guide decisions around performance, capacity and service-level objectives. This is your opportunity to take ownership of complex distributed systems and directly improve the experience we deliver to our customers.

Your playing field:

• You are running the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health.
• You are building software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications.
• You are improving the reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions.

• You are providing primary operational support and engineering for multiple large-scale distributed software applications.
• You are gathering and analysing metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault-finding.
• You are partnering with development teams to improve services.
• You are participating in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
• You are creating sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.
• You are balancing feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectives.

Which skills should you bring to the pitch:

• Education. Bachelor/master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent degree.
• Experience. 2+ years of experience in similar positions like Senior Software Developer or Performance Lab Engineer.
• Programming Skills. You can program (structured and OOP) using one or more high-levellanguages, such as Java, JavaScript and Python.
• Subject Matter Expert. You are an expert in cloud computing technologies (AWS).
• You have solid knowledge and experience working with Kubernetes (administration, optimisation, CRDs).
• Proficiency in CI/CD and provisioning tools (GitHub actions, Terraform).
• Issues are challenges for you. You have a proactive approach in identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
• Benefit. Vendor certifications (AWS) or equivalent; experience in a Java-based development environment (Java Background is of benefit).
• Language skills. You are fluent in English. If you have a working knowledge of German, it would be an advantage.
