The Opportunity:

We are hiring a Senior Non-Life Treaty Underwriter for our reinsurance business with primary responsibility for the leadership and development of our P&C portfolio in the DACH region, among others.

We are looking for experienced candidates who are fluent in German, have a strong profile/track record in these markets, are well networked with key stakeholders, and have previous portfolio management experience of at least 5 years.

This is an exciting opportunity as QBE Re expands its global footprint and diversifies its portfolio.

We are open to discussing the location of hire and could accommodate the right candidate in Germany, Brussels, or Dublin.

Your New Role:

  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan.
  • Ensure the team’s awareness of the business plan and its context, to enable appropriate decision-making.
  • Participate in all meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Promote the department, division, and company to maximize brand leverage.
  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and best practices to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Act as a technical expert to support issue identification and opportunity recognition within your area of expertise.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues.
  • Understand and monitor market dynamics and cycles to drive business performance.
  • Continuously develop technical expertise through relevant learning activities.
  • Underwrite treaty risks according to the business plan and personal authority, including negotiating rates, terms, and conditions, and ensuring compliance and contribution to business objectives.
  • Support credit control processes for payment collection.
  • Contribute to portfolio review and analysis to track progress towards business goals.
  • Ensure accurate and prompt recording of entries on EO systems for underwriting and exposure data.
  • Participate in aggregate management and peer review processes to foster excellence.
  • Manage team resources to meet business requirements.
  • Motivate and develop the team with effective leadership and management practices.
  • Manage performance fairly and according to established processes.

  • Extensive experience in the reinsurance industry with deep knowledge of Property and Casualty lines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, achieve targets, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical expertise in Non-Life Treaty Reinsurance, with negotiation skills for complex treaty structures.
  • Stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
