The Opportunity:

We are hiring a Senior Non-Life Treaty Underwriter for our reinsurance business, with primary responsibility for the leadership and development of our P&C portfolio in the DACH region, among others.

We are looking for experienced candidates who are fluent in German, have a strong profile/track record in these markets, are well networked with key stakeholders, and have at least 5 years of portfolio management experience.

This is an exciting opportunity as QBE Re expands its global footprint and diversifies its portfolio.

We are open to discussing the location of hire and can accommodate the right candidate in Germany, Brussels, or Dublin.

Your New Role:

  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure its delivery.
  • Ensure the team’s awareness of the business plan and its context to facilitate appropriate decision-making.
  • Participate in meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Promote the department, division, and company to maximize brand leverage.
  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards and good practices to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Act as a technical expert to identify issues and opportunities within your area of expertise.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including customers, brokers, and colleagues.
  • Understand market dynamics and cycles to drive business performance.
  • Develop your technical knowledge through ongoing learning activities.
  • Underwrite treaty risks in line with the business plan, including negotiating rates and terms, ensuring compliance, and supporting credit control.
  • Analyze portfolio performance to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure accurate and prompt data entry on EO systems for underwriting and exposure data.
  • Manage resources effectively to meet business requirements.
  • Motivate and develop your team, demonstrating strong leadership and performance management skills.

About you:

  • Extensive experience in reinsurance, especially Property and Casualty lines.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet targets and deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills in Non-Life Treaty Reinsurance, including negotiating complex treaties.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams.
  • Fluent in German and English.
