The Opportunity:

We are hiring a Senior Non-Life Treaty Underwriter for our reinsurance business, with primary responsibility for the leadership and development of our P&C portfolio in the DACH region, amongst others.

We are looking for experienced candidates who are fluent in German, have a strong profile/track record in these markets, are well-networked with key stakeholders, and have previous portfolio management experience of at least 5 years.

This is an exciting opportunity, especially as QBE Re is expanding its global footprint and diversifying its portfolio.

We are open to discussing the location of hire and can accommodate the right candidate in Germany, Brussels, or Dublin.

Your New Role:

  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure its delivery.
  • Ensure the team’s awareness of the business plan and its context to facilitate appropriate decision-making.
  • Participate in all meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Promote the department, division, and company to maximize brand leverage.
  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practices to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Act as a technical expert to identify issues and opportunities within your area of expertise.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate understanding of market dynamics and cycles to drive business performance.
  • Continuously develop your technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Underwrite treaty risks in line with the business plan and personal authority, including negotiating rates, terms, and conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines, contribute to the business plan, and support credit control.
  • Analyze portfolio progress towards business objectives.
  • Ensure accurate and prompt recording of entries on EO systems.
  • Manage resources and motivate the team to meet business requirements.
  • Lead and develop the team through effective leadership and performance management.

About you:

  • Extensive experience in the reinsurance industry, with deep knowledge of Property and Casualty lines.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet targets and deadlines.
  • Strong technical expertise in Non-Life Treaty Reinsurance and negotiation skills.
  • Stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and team leadership ability.
  • Proficiency in German and English.
