As Senior Software Engineer for Data Platform, you will design, implement, and improve our data platform solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in building data platforms, enjoys solving complex problems, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring our data systems are efficient, reliable, and scalable to meet the demands of our growing business. It also involves fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the team. This position is unlimited and located in Munich.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • design, build, and maintain a reliable and sustainable cloud-based data platform to process large volumes of data
  • optimise the solutions architecture and systems for performance, scalability, quality, and cost-efficiency
  • collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data platform needs and deliver effective solutions
  • implement solutions to support data governance and enable proper access control
  • automate monitoring and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and reliability of the systems
  • conduct research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and best practices
  • develop custom code using robust software architecture and comprehensive test automation when open-source or third-party alternatives are not viable
  • support team members and contribute to fostering a culture of learning and collaboration
  • support users in understanding and utilising the data platform effectively, while troubleshooting and resolving reported issues
  • define team goals, set clear expectations, and ensure alignment with company objectives and business priorities
  • manage team capacity, assign resources effectively, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions
  • lead efforts to define and implement best practices for data platform development, governance, and operations
YOU COME WITH
  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in data platform engineering, software engineering, software architecture, or a similar role, with a focus on building scalable data platforms
  • experience in designing and implementing robust and sustainable solutions and software architectures
  • fluency in Python and SQL, with a strong understanding of software development best practices
  • strong knowledge and hands-on experience with data manipulation, specifically with columnar databases (Snowflake is a plus)
  • knowledge and hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS is desired)
  • experience with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes is desired)
  • familiarity with the internals of workflow orchestration tools (Airflow) and data transformation frameworks (dbt)
  • familiarity with real-time data processing and streaming platforms would be nice to have
  • clear communication, written and spoken, including fluency in English
  • previous leadership experience is valued, including mentoring, guiding, or leading a team
