The smatch team has set out to change the course of the retail industry by finding smarter, more sustainable ways to deal with excess stock: Their private, asset-light B2B marketplace for stock connects retailers and brands who want to discreetly switch channels of commerce partners. smatch’s DNA is a combination of tech, sustainability, and retail: they leverage real-time deep data insights with deep retail expertise to offer a new way to manage excess stock instead of destroying it.

The founders have deep retail and growth experience, led a multi-billion dollar IPO and a successful startup exit. With previous careers at leading strategy consulting firms, our founders have a strong background in building and commercialising and are looking for you as the skilled colleague for outstanding operations.

About the role

This Senior Seller role is key to driving smatch’s expansion in the European fashion market. Focused on selling high-quality inventory at competitive prices, the role will build buyer relationships, negotiate deals, and lead a team. This position is vital for establishing a strong demand base and growing smatch’s market presence. The Senior Seller will report directly to the founders of smatch.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and secure diverse demand channels, including retail chains, offprice chains, wholesaler and B2C Marketplaces.

  • Build and leverage personal networks to expand smatch’s selling options.

  • Establish and manage business relationships, ensuring consistent quarterly deals.

  • Act as senior contact for selling, managing demand negotiations and decisions.

  • Oversee budgets to optimize selling prices and profitability.

  • Apply expertise in (off-price) fashion, footwear, and textiles to guide sales strategy. Possess a comprehensive understanding of merchandise and category management across various product types.

  • Lead and mentor junior sellers as the team grows.

  • Maintain strong, loyal relationships with retail representatives and partners.

About you

  • Extensive experience in sales, specifically within the off-price apparel, footwear, and accessories industry.

  • Strong network within the industry and familiarity with alternative distribution channels.

  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively and close deals.

  • Proficiency in category management and merchandise management.

  • Proficiency in Excel.

  • Willingness to travel for meetings with retailers and other demand partners.

  • Fluency in German and English is required; Italian or French is a plus.

  • Based in Hamburg or elsewhere in Germany, with monthly visits to the office in Hamburg
