This Position reports to: Engineering Manager

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on design, implementation, upgrade, and retrofit activities to expand ABB's 800xA DCS and AC800M-based process control systems, as well as auxiliary systems for plant automation applications. With a focus on cybersecurity, you will act as the design authority for the process automation portion of projects in a cost-effective manner.

You will also showcase your skills by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects. In cooperation with other teams, you will integrate the latest solutions developed within ABB in plant automation, electrical integration, and energy management systems.

This role will contribute to the Process Industries division in Switzerland.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and engineering the integration of automation systems, primarily in the mining industry and minerals processing.
  • Carrying out quality inspections and factory acceptance tests as well as commissioning our solutions at customer locations and supporting customers in resolving technical issues both remotely and at customer site worldwide and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing professional service at all stages of the project.
  • Interacting and collaborating with engineering peers across multiple locations and assisting project managers and project lead engineers in technical reviews and discussions with customers, partners, subcontractors, and vendors, and assessing the impacts of requirements on project execution.
  • Providing technical details and cost calculations for sales proposals.
Your background
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering fields such as electrical, mechatronics, automation or systems engineering with a focus on Industrial IT and automation systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in the field of industrial control systems or automation, including commissioning experience as well as knowledge of process DCS systems (SW and HW) such as ABB 800xA or similar.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, communication, and fieldbus protocols like Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, combined with good understanding and ability to apply cybersecurity practices in accordance with the IEC 62443 standard framework.
  • Knowledge of energy distribution concepts, electrical networks, and related equipment.
  • Ability to effectively manage your own tasks with a high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and a commitment to learn more about new technologies. Furthermore, a collaborative, solution-oriented approach is required to discuss and present ideas and reach agreements with internal and external customers.
  • Good technical communication skills and business fluency in English (written and spoken); basic German language skills are advantageous.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for worldwide commissioning and service activities (30%).
