J&T Express Germany GmbH in Kelsterbach seeks a Senior Privacy & Data Protection Counsel to lead European privacy programs and oversee GDPR/BDSG compliance. You will shape the Privacy Management System, draft policies, and advise on DPIAs, DPAs, and data transfers across the business.

You will collaborate with Operations, IT, HR and external advisers, ensure training and governance, and maintain privacy reporting.

Qualifikationen

• Fully qualified lawyer with German or European qualification focused on data protection and privacy law.
• Experience in GDPR/BDSG compliance, DPAs, DPIAs, and international transfers.

• Act as primary legal advisor on European and German data protection law, GDPR and BDSG, DPIAs, DPAs, and data transfers.
• Shape, implement, and enhance the Privacy Management System; prepare policies and notices.
• Drive Privacy by Design/Default across business projects; manage RoPA and retention.
• Provide privacy guidance to cross-functional teams in Germany/Europe; train staff.

Join J&T Express as a (Senior) Privacy & Data Protection Counsel and become part of our growing Legal & Compliance team.

The role is currently based in Kelsterbach. As part of our continued growth, we are planning to relocate our office to Nieder-Olm, near Mainz, around October 2026.

Your Responsibilities

Data Protection & Privacy

• Act as the primary legal advisor on all aspects of European and German data protection law, particularly the GDPR and BDSG, including data subject requests, personal data breaches, and regulatory inquiries
• Shape, implement, and continuously enhance the company's Privacy Management System
• Prepare, review, and maintain privacy policies, notices, guidelines, and internal procedures
• Drive Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default initiatives across business projects and new technologies
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
• Oversee the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) and advise on data retention and information lifecycle management
• Negotiate and review Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and advise on international data transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs)

Business Support

• Partner with business functions across Germany and Europe to deliver pragmatic and commercially sound privacy advice
• Support strategic business initiatives, operational processes, and digital transformation projects from a data protection perspective

Compliance & Governance

• Perform privacy audits and compliance reviews
• Design and deliver privacy training and awareness initiatives
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and translate them into practical business solutions
• Establish privacy reporting, compliance metrics, and governance standards

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Operations, IT, Information Security, HR, and other key stakeholders to embed privacy requirements into day-to-day business
• Liaise with external legal advisors and the Data Protection Officer where required

Your Profile

• Fully qualified lawyer (Germany) or an equivalent European legal qualification; alternatively, a law degree with relevant professional experience in data protection and privacy law
• At least 3 years of professional experience in data protection and privacy law
• Strong knowledge of the GDPR, the BDSG, and other applicable European data protection laws
• Experience drafting and negotiating Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), advising on international data transfers, and conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
• Professional privacy certifications such as CIPP/E are considered an advantage
• Experience in the logistics, e-commerce, transportation, or technology sector is considered an advantage
• Business-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and take ownership
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, international, and rapidly growing business environment
• Business fluent German and English are required
