Senior / Principal Engineer - Product Testing and Failure Investigation (m/f/d)

Position Summary

For the Innovation Unit - Quality Engineering in Munich, Germany, LivaNova is seeking a new talented professional. We are hiring a Senior to Principal Engineer in Electro-mechanical Product Testing & Failure Investigation to support our expanding product portfolio, including New Generation R&D Projects and Product Lifecycle management.

You will be a key contributor to the quality strategy for our Cardiopulmonary equipment development and manufacturing processes, ensuring the device's quality and effectiveness in patient treatment.

This role supports Product Development, Clinical, Manufacturing, and other Quality System activities both locally and globally, with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

General Responsibilities

1. Independently drive and perform technical failure investigations on software-driven electro-mechanical systems/products to identify root causes of potential defects, supporting quality and reliability improvements across various departments and product life cycle stages.
2. Develop test concepts, build test setups, execute tests, and document reports to support hypothesis testing, failure mechanism analysis, and defect characterization.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop investigation strategies, generate test and risk analysis concepts, and propose corrective actions.
4. Maintain and develop the investigation laboratory, ensuring it meets operational needs.
5. Write detailed technical investigation reports and risk assessments related to customer complaints and non-conformities.
6. Assess broker goods as a quality SME and improve related processes.

Skills and Experience

1. Engineering degree (Bachelor or Master) with knowledge of analog and digital techniques.
2. Beneficial: Education in technical crafts such as electronics technician, Information Elektroniker, or Communication Technician in Telecom.
3. Extensive experience with electro-mechanical products, including microprocessor circuits, embedded HW/SW modules, and electronic testing.
4. Proficiency in analyzing and designing tests for electronic systems and understanding of failure analysis techniques.
5. Knowledge of systematic error search, reliability methods (FTAs, FMEAs), and simulation tools; experience with AI-based tools is advantageous.
6. Good understanding of physics, engineering principles, and failure analysis techniques.
7. Fluent in English; German language skills are preferred.
8. Effective communication, teamwork, networking skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities.
