YOUR ROLE

The (Senior) Mergers & Acquisitions Manager (m/f/d) supports inorganic strategy development at Brenntag and leads front to end acquisition and portfolio optimization projects in close collaboration with our business and functional leaders. Activities include: target assessment, valuation discussions, leading internal and external M&A processes and building the bridge to the integration activities.

The successful individual will work closely with the divisions in our regions, our corporate leaderships as well as our different HQ functional departments.

Responsibilities

As (Senior) Mergers & Acquisitions Manager (m/f/d) you will translate Brenntag’s business strategy into M&A priorities to support growth, in close cooperation with our divisions, our global strategy teams and other relevant functions. Moreover, you will be leading entire M&A processes. Externally you will be negotiating with sellers and their advisors throughout NDA, NBO, due diligence and signing/closing phases. Internally, you will manage target assessment, due diligence and approval processes with our board and supervisory board. As owner of M&A projects you will also regularly report on their progress and be involved in the preparation of integrations plans post closing.

  • Identify and assess acquisition opportunities by managing direct outreach to potential targets and M&A advisors, contributing to the development of Brenntag’s M&A pipeline.

  • Lead end-to-end execution of acquisition projects, from deal origination through closing and post-merger integration, in alignment with Brenntag SE’s M&A strategy.

  • Negotiate key transaction documents, including share and asset purchase agreements, in close collaboration with senior leadership and the Legal department.

  • Structure and optimize transactions, designing effective deal structures and contractual frameworks to support strategic objectives.

  • Drive post-merger integration efforts, building best-practice playbooks and guiding regional teams through integration planning and execution.

  • Support strategic planning by challenging and reviewing business plans, coordinating due diligence processes, and performing financial valuations.

  • Prepare high-quality decision materials for executive leadership and the Board, ensuring clear and well-supported recommendations.

YOUR PROFILE

Skills

  • Proven senior-level project management experience, including leading and managing cross-functional teams.

  • Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of motivating and persuading stakeholders to achieve organizational goals cohesively and effectively.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex concepts clearly.

  • Highly conscientious and detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.

Experience
  • Over 5 years of hands-on experience with M&A processes, ideally within investment banking, transaction services at reputable international M&A advisory firms, or corporate M&A roles.

  • Industry affinity in chemicals or wholesale distribution is an advantage.

Education
  • Master’s Degree, preferably in Business or Finance

  • Candidates with degrees in Engineering or related fields will also be considered.
