Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated and result-oriented “Machine Learning Scientist” to join the AI and Machine Learning R&D team in Munich. In this role, you will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms and applications for medical fields such as ophthalmology, laser vision correction, and microsurgery. You will also play a key role in driving innovation and implementing new AI-based medical software concepts on cloud platforms or devices. This role involves close interaction and collaboration with various teams across different locations.

Your Role

• Develop ML algorithms and data mining methods for medical applications, primarily with text data and secondarily with structured data
• Drive innovation and generate intellectual property
• Provide technical expertise to support defining requirements for cloud-based or device-based ML algorithms
• Establish and review quality management system documents for ML applications
• Review state-of-the-art AI applications from third-party providers, analyze, and prepare them for deployment

Your Profile

• PhD in machine learning, data science, informatics, or related fields
• At least 3 years of experience as a data scientist
• Experience in natural language processing, including classical NLP approaches and large language models
• Deep knowledge of shallow and deep machine learning algorithms
• Experience with frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Proficiency in Python programming
• Hands-on experience with ML cloud providers, preferably Microsoft Azure ML
• Good knowledge of statistical analysis and pattern recognition with structured data
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Fluency in English

Nice to have

• Experience in computer vision and ML for image analysis
• Experience working in regulated environments like medical software development
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Azure platform and workspaces
• Experience with other programming languages such as C++
