As a Legal Counsel (full-time), you will be part of the IOTA Foundation's Legal & Regulatory Affairs team. You will support our day-to-day business and develop innovative solutions to novel legal questions. Your role will help ensure the IOTA Foundation's overall compliance with new and existing regulations and provide legal certainty to those who want to use the IOTA technology.

Responsibilities & Requirements

1. Legal Compliance:
   • Ensure that IOTA's operations and technology solutions comply with relevant laws and regulations in various jurisdictions.
   • Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement policies and procedures to maintain legal compliance.
   • Research and anticipate unique legal issues within the Web3 space that impact the IOTA Foundation, its ecosystem, and partners.
2. Legal Certainty for Users:
   • Work closely with external stakeholders, including businesses, developers, and users, to provide legal guidance and certainty regarding the use of IOTA's technology.
   • Develop educational materials and resources to enhance understanding of legal implications within the IOTA ecosystem.
3. Contractual Negotiations:
   • Negotiate and draft agreements, including partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and contracts with third-party vendors, ensuring legal protections and compliance.
   • Advise on contract status, legal risks, and liabilities associated with different partnerships and commercial arrangements.
   • Manage legal aspects of disputes or conflicts that may arise, seeking resolutions through negotiation, mediation, or other means.
   • Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary.
4. Policy Development:
   • Contribute to the development of internal policies and guidelines to align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
   • Work with technical teams to understand the intricacies of IOTA's technology and its legal implications.
   • Coordinate with technology, communications, and marketing teams to align legal strategies with organizational goals.
6. Regulatory Engagement:
   • Monitor and analyze regulatory developments globally, providing insights and recommendations to the organization and relevant associations.
7. Skills & Qualifications:
   • Minimum of 4 years of significant experience as legal counsel, preferably within the Web3 space.
   • Background in Common Law.
   • Master's Degree in Law and Bar admission.
   • Strong knowledge of global legal and regulatory landscapes related to blockchain and DLT.
   • Proactive attitude and comfort working in a fully remote setup.
   • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
   • High fluency in spoken and written English.
8. Nice to Have:
   • Familiarity with smart contracts, decentralized applications (DApps), and tokenization.
   • Experience working in an international, cross-functional environment.
   • Knowledge of the German language.
