Our new Core Facility for Flow Cytometry at Helmholtz Munich seeks a motivated research support specialist with flow cytometry experience. The role involves supporting core operations in cell sorting and analysis, providing training, maintaining equipment, and assisting with data interpretation in an interdisciplinary environment.

You will ensure smooth facility operations, support user training, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to developing new methodologies and workflows, including cross-platform applications.

Your Tasks
  1. Operate cell sorters and support user analysis.
  2. Train new users in cell sorting and analysis techniques.
  3. Create training materials and informational content.
  4. Perform routine maintenance and quality control on equipment.
  5. Troubleshoot technical issues and liaise with service engineers.
  6. Develop new flow cytometry methods and workflows.
  7. Follow safety protocols and maintain detailed documentation.
  8. Assist with experimental planning, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
  9. Manage core facility operations such as ordering, billing, and scheduling.
  10. Backup data and maintain databases.
Your Profile
Essential Qualifications
  • Research/lab technician (MTA/BTA/CTA) with ≥6 years of relevant flow cytometry experience, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s in cell biology/immunology or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry technology, preferably in a core facility setting.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting instruments like BD Aria III, BD FACSSymphony S6, BD Symphony A3, Miltenyi MACSima.
  • Knowledge of complex high-end panel design (>20 parameters), optical configurations, and compensation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and flow cytometry software such as Diva, FlowJo, or FCSExpress.
  • Experience in lab management, SOP writing, and molecular biology or immunology assays.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong communication skills in English; German is a plus.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with Containment Level 2 (BSL2).
  • Experience designing high-throughput panels for imaging or spectral analysis.
  • Knowledge of single-cell and spatial biology, microscopy, histology, and high-dimensional data analysis.
