Optimus Search in Berlin is seeking a Senior High-Power Laser Test & Applications Engineer to lead hands-on test campaigns and optimise high-power laser systems for defence environments.

You will validate performance under real-world conditions, bridge theory and hardware, and transform test data into actionable engineering improvements. This is not a routine testing role and requires Berlin on-site work with German security clearance.

Qualifikationen

• 3+ years hands-on high-power laser experience (fibre, diode, solid‑state).
• Strong physics‑first analysis; advanced Python / MATLAB.
• Calorimeters, beam profilers, wavefront sensors, fast photodiodes, spectrometers.
• Class 4 laser safety expertise.
• EU citizen, eligible for German security clearance, on‑site Berlin.

Aufgaben

• Design & run advanced test campaigns: dynamic tracking, variable environments, diverse targets.
• Characterise beam–target interaction, energy efficiency, peak & sustained power performance.
• Improve beam quality, delivery efficiency & pointing stability; mitigate thermal blooming, wavefront distortion, optical degradation, power drop-off.
• Analyse datasets; build Python/MATLAB tools; correlate results with models.
• Lead root‑cause investigations; feed engineering‑grade recommendations to design teams.
• Validate physical models; refine performance predictions.
• Own Class 4 laser safety; conduct lab & controlled outdoor testing; support field trials.
• Produce qualification documentation & stakeholder‑ready technical reports.

The Role:

Lead application-focused testing and hands-on optimisation of high-power laser systems for operational defence environments. Validate performance under real-world conditions, bridge theory and hardware behaviour, and turn test data into engineering improvements. Not a routine testing role.

Responsibilities
