Job summary

Ayrton Group is seeking a Senior Safety Advisor to take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental activities on a €30M project in Western Germany, overseeing up to sixty personnel. The role requires 4–5 years of relevant experience and a strong background in heavy civil/infrastructure projects.

Applicants should have a diploma or degree in HSE, a full driving licence, and be willing to work on site in Germany full time.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years’ experience in Safety Advisor roles or equivalent (Senior/ EHS advisor).
• Experience on Heavy Civils, Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy, Data Centre or large construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and site management systems.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations and risk assessments.
• Full driving licence and willingness to work on site in Germany full time.

• Promote and drive a positive safety culture across all site operations.
• Advise and support management, supervisors, and operatives on HSE matters.
• Ensure compliance with local legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.
• Lead toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings.
• Review and approve RAMS.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor subcontractor safety performance and enforce site rules.
• Compile HSE reports and KPI data for the project.
• Manage permit-to-work systems and high-risk activities.

Our client has established itself as one of the Northwest of Ireland’s leading civil engineering contractors, employing over three hundred staff across a range of specialist trades. With a proven record delivering complex infrastructure projects including pipelines, treatment plants, reservoirs and water storage systems throughout Ireland, the company has experienced significant growth across the Energy, Power, Utilities and Data Centre sectors both in Ireland and mainland Europe.

Due to continued expansion into international markets, they are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Safety Advisor to take ownership of all Health, Safety and Environmental activities on a major €30M project in Western Germany, overseeing a workforce of up to sixty personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and drive a positive safety culture across all site operations.
• Advise and support management, supervisors, and operatives on all HSE matters.
• Ensure compliance with local legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.
• Lead toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings.
• Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe acts, implementing corrective actions.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to site safety requirements.
• Compile HSE reports, KPI data and project safety statistics.
• Manage permit-to-work systems and high-risk activities.
• Support emergency response planning and preparedness exercises.
• Work closely with project teams to identify risks and implement preventative measures.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practice across the project.

Requirements

• Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in a Safety Advisor, Senior Safety Advisor, EHS Advisor or HSE Advisor role.
• Proven experience on Heavy Civils, Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy, Data Centre, or Large Construction Projects.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and site management systems.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations, and risk assessments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Relevant Health & Safety qualification (Diploma or Degree preferred).
• Full driving licence.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a multidisciplinary project team.
• Willingness to work in Germany on site full time.
