With its 14 E-3A aircraft, our organization plays a critical role in NATO and our mission is to deliver ready, responsive Airborne Early Warning, Battle Management, and Command and Control capability to operational commanders in support of NAC-approved tasks.

The Air Traffic Control & Airfield Services Squadron directs and controls performance of subordinate Branches/Sections. It provides Air Traffic Control Service, Meteorological Service, Fire-/Crash- and Rescue-Service, Ground Radar and Radio Maintenance Service.

The Fire/Crash/Rescue Branch provides a 24/7 fire-fighting capability for all aircraft, operational, technical and domestic areas.

The incumbent performs specialized functions in the Fire Alarm Control Centre (FACC) of the E-3A Component. Additionally, performs duties as a firefighter to include all fire fighting tasks, practices and training/exercises.

THE ROLE

The incumbent's duties are:

• Performing fire fighting, crash and rescue duties;
• Overseeing the emergency alarm and communication systems and taking relevant actions as required/instructed;
• Receiving calls and informing/directing fire crew supervisor and fire fighter personnel accordingly;
• Informing other on and off-base agencies on occurrences as planned/instructed and required;
• Logging all relevant occurrences in the logbook and the computer log;
• Ensuring that all emergency calls are tape-recorded;
• Accounting and operational readiness of all assigned equipment and materiel;
• Performing functional / operational checks on all assigned FACC equipment (telephones, tape recorder, radio, etc.) and immediately initiating remedial actions, when required;
• Keeping, maintaining and updating regulations, operating procedures, directives and technical orders;
• Keeping and updating building folders including floor plans, emergency routes, listings of stored hazardous materials and keys;
  
• Performing general office administrative duties;
• Staying abreast of technological developments in the assigned area of expertise and maintaining professional proficiency;
• Performing general housekeeping, clean up, snow and ice removal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Good knowledge of firefighting principles and tactics acquired through at least 3 years current professional experience as active firefighter;
• Sound knowledge of and experience in utilizing personal computers and control room communication systems as well as fire alarm systems;
• Fully qualified firefighter;
• Driving licenses appropriate to operate any type Airfield Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Vehicle equivalent to European Classes C & CE;
• Fire Alarm Control & Communication Specialist;
• Fire Officer l (Oberbrandmeister); Equivalent to HN LG1E2 according to VAP 1-2-Feu and AGBF;
• Aircraft Firefighting - Phase I;
• Basic training course; (Brandmeister) Equivalent to Host Nation (HN) LG1E1 according to VAP 1-1-Feu and AGBF, which must include as a minimum:
• Basic firefighting;
• Rescue Operations - Phase I;
• NBC Operations - Phase I;
• Operator for Pumps and Vehicles;
• Operator for Turntable ladders;
• Operator for Swop load vehicles;
• Voice radio operator course;
• Wearer of Self-contained Breathing Apparatus;
• Equipment maintainer course;
• Chain saw operator course;
• Paramedic (Equivalent DEU: “Rettungssanitäter” or higher);
• Physical Fitness Training (Equivalent DEU: Rettungsschwimmerabzeichen and Deutsches Sportabzeichen in Silber);
• Formal education or vocational training in LG1E2;
• Formal education or vocational training in Fire Alarm Control & Communication Specialist;
• The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English therefore sufficient English proficiency is essential;
• Adequate knowledge of Standard Automatic Data Processing (ADP) is required.

THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE

• Member of a voluntary firefighting organization.
• Previous NATO assignment.
• Experience working in an international/military environment.
• Experience working with a disaster command and control system and familiarity with the German and Dutch Fire Department's Incident Command System.

CONTRACT

Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.

Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.

SALARY

Salary values indicated in this vacancy notice are based on the new Single Salary Spine scale.
