Job Description Summary

Senior Discipline Engineers make up a multi-discipline technical team responsible for the application of GEH new plant technology (e.g. BWRX-300 Standard Plant) to prospective customer sites, including engineering input to the development of new plant proposals, early works agreements and new product offerings. In this position, the Electrical Systems Discipline Engineer will determine how standard plant design meets application-specific requirements, codes, and standards while incorporating new product modifications. You will provide detailed statements of work for current and subsequent project phases, proposal technical write-ups, engineering estimates, schedule development and risk assessments in support of site selection, site permitting, and construction/operation licensing milestones. The result of the Senior Discipline Engineer’s design planning is a comprehensive engineering solution that can be efficiently executed by design teams.

When necessary, you will coordinate with functional managers on departures from standard products to produce estimated costs, cycles and risks for new plant opportunities. You will be responsible for on-time and on-budget delivery of early works projects and new product developments, while partnering with internal and external technical teams supporting proposal and/or early works projects.

Essential Responsibilities
  • You will be part of an engineering team that assures proposals and early works packages are aligned with our standard offering.
  • You will identify site-specific technical departures related to all plant electrical systems and grid interfaces, plan the engineering solution to those departures, and work with engineering teams to provide associated costs, cycle times and risks.
  • You will establish and maintain effective discipline-specific design interfaces and document these in deliverables that become part of proposals and/or contracts.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal discipline engineering teams.
  • Interface with external partners, customers, and other applicable country-specific regulatory agencies on technical issues as required.
  • Work with proposal and early works teams to build estimates, schedules, and identify risks associated with different opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to external partner engineering resources to ensure the quality of deliverables, enable flexibility and improved cost positions.
  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities.
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of GEVH.
  • Support GEVH initiatives, corrective action, process improvement and simplification.
  • Ensure adherence to GEVH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related Science or technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in engineering design and/or project leadership experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the nuclear industry or equivalent large-scale new build experience in the power industry.
Eligibility Requirements
  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proven ability to be a liaison between organizations operating in separate geographic locations.
  • High performing individual with demonstrated ability to deliver results while promoting strong team performance.
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to think strategically, be creative and move quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of highly experienced engineers and balance multiple demands and priorities.
  • High performing energetic leader with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance.
  • Experience with project management skills (communication, risk, planning/scheduling, change management).
  • EPC experience and knowledge; specifically, power plant.
  • Understanding of nuclear industry and technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business.
